My daughter might buy me Red faction for Xmas. Is it any good?
I'm still on os 9.04, so I don't mind if it isn't good for OSX. I like to play Unreal on-line and I hear Red Faction is playable on-line..

I've played a bunch of deathmatch games on a PS2, and it is really fun.

I have played it as one player only on a PC, and it is a very good fps. I'd reccommend it.

It's cool to drill 100' shafts into the floor of a room w/ satchel charges. Then jump down it and die.

I've played the PC demo and it wasn't impressing. The graphics weren't that good, and this GeoDestruction or however does only work on selected materials. You can break through a wall, but at the next specified door you'll be stopped.
I cant tell how the story is, but what I got form the demo was like all the shooters: not much.

Yeah it is good.

I had it on my playstation 2 and played it through. Its a very long and challenging single player game, and pretty frantic quake 3 style deathmatching.

Heaps of variety in it; you can get vehicles such as a jeep with an m60 machine gun on the back. The other guy drives, and you take the gun.

Also the aliens are pretty scary - jump out of nowhere sometimes. Smart AI too - its REALLY hard - easily the toughest fps I have played since probably duke 3d.

If you like the look of it, get it; you wont be disappointed. On the ps2 it has less replay value because there is no online multiplayer yet, but obviously on a mac that isnt a problem

I imagine the requirement to run it WELL are pretty high on a mac. It may choke a little on any imac, but would run well on a g4.

I play alien vs predator on my ibook, and i like it, though it chokes a little.

I think this game fairly beats out Half Life. Although, Half Life had a better ending. Not the final six or seven levels, -it got a bit wacky there, but the agent in the monorail car was a nifty idea.

The eios women leader seems a bit too tough to be real.

Well, that was fun. Now, it's back to throwing knives at perfect-english speaking cats, cards, ladybugs, and other assorted opengl generated bots.

I dont think its fair to compare half life with red faction as half life is several years older.

Also, you have to consider counterstrike, the mod for half life which turned it from the best single player fps at the time to easily the best online fps ever.....

In some parallel universe, Half Life might be available on Mac. Of course in that parallel universe nobody ever heard of Microsoft. And Apple has 90% marketshare.
