The Epyx version of Rogue... only I can't find it anywhere for Mac. It can be found for PC and Amiga, but no Mac. Anyone here who can help?
By the way, there's not a single true version of Rogue for Mac except the Epyx version... except now I bet there's a version for OS X, isn't there? Just a UNIX recompile away.
Oh... and Dark Castle, and Arkanoid.
All played on a Mac Plus of course, no 3D acceleration required!
And is there anyone out there who knows Bandit Kings of Ancient China? Sadly, the only game KOEI ever released for the Mac. Now all of their games for the PC are in Chinese, Japanese and Korean only, and their English games are only released for console systems, but nothing at all for the Mac in any language.
Color props to Civ, Spaceward Ho (4.0), Warlords II, Maelstrom, Might and Magic 3...
And then we get into PPC... let's see... Marathon 2 and my favorite shooter, Shadow Warrior ("Noooo one messes with the Wang!!!")
Then I didn't ever get 3d acceleration until I bought my TiBook this month. Time to try out Myth, and some new shooters. The Sims seems cool but I haven't found the time for it yet.

Since I'm a master of the obvious, I'll state the obvious fact. Reject this, and you reject truth:
Unreal Tournament is the greatest game ever made to date.

*Rejects Archangels truth*
I couldnt pick one best ever game. I simply couldnt.
But a list would have to include;
Half life; Deus Ex; Thief; Starcraft & Fallout.
I believe Baldurs Gate 2 belongs in such a list but Im yet to find out.
I am using recent games, If I was to take a trip back in time I loved Civ, the Last Ninja (c64), Paradroid (C64) and so many others.
I never gained a strong love for UT - I prefer counterstrike and Quake 3 arena.

THE BEST GAME EVER: PACMAN
For the simple reason that everyone at one time or another has played it and loved it. It is always fun and it has appealed to everyone. Even the most die hard "games are for kids" people have played PACMAN (parents).

gosh, killing time on a sunday morning. so many great games. ones that made me waste a lot of my life.
civilization II
spyhunter
centurion
legend of Zelda(kicking ass with a magical boomerang was so good)
warcraft II
but the game that probably holds the fondest memories of my younger years,
Elevator Action, god that was fun.
They actually had it at this club in chicago for a while a few years back. Everyone else is drinking, socializing and dancing. I'm asking the bartender for a
jamesons's on the rocks and ten bucks in quarters. Very odd merging of two different decades for me.

Hm... Best game ever, eh?
I have a bit of a list for that:
Escape Velocity / Override
Cythera *ducks before hit by a number of high-velocity thrown projectiles*
Nethergate
Civilazation 2

Wow... I wonder why everyone likes UT so much. Unreal, although less feature-packed, is much better. You actually have a plot involved with a single player game, and 32-player multiplayer games are the same as in UT, but faster. I'll give you that not all of the same game modes and maps are standard, but Unreal offers more diversity and costs about $15 off the shelf.
And on another note, Escape Velocity was the best game ever made, hands down. EVO was a great sequel.

Man, I think half of you guys are too young (UT!), and the other half are too old (Bubble Trouble).......
Hey...I advise all you guys to go out to Bungie and buy Marathon. That game, my friends, was an amazing piece of art. I think it's probably better than any of the sequels, considering the time it was released and its incredible atmosphere.
Unreal Tournament, Quake III, Diablo II, etc. are surely the BEST games, but they're also released into familiar, tired, over-done genres with simple enhancements like better graphics and a new "mode" of gameplay.
Games like Marathon, which was probably the second first-person shooter out for the Mac, really blazed the trail for everything else.....

UT as the best game?! You've got to be kidding. (I say after yet another game of CTF-Face.) I'm not even going to mention Doom.
I tthink Marathon has really carried the votes. It's amazing how great that game was.
I tried Rubicon but I got stuck on Hairy Legs. Eventually I turned on the cheats to get out but then got lost in the next level. Hearing on alt.games.marathon that it only gets harder -- and that the last level is next to impossible -- I gave it up for a while. I'll come back to it soon, but I'm not all that skilled so I hope it's doable.
I really liked "I'd rather be a lutefisk." A pretty simple level but it really caught me up. The next dream level, too.

I'm also looking forward to the M1->A1 project to finish up. I forgot to copy the preferences over when I moved to my new computer so I can't play M1 anymore (lost serial number). Plus, Aleph One, with the texture enhancement pack, is so nice.
Does anyone know how internet networking on A1 is going? I expect it'll be a while before that's finished, but then I'll be able to delete UT from my hard drive and be -
Ok, still getting used to the fact that Bungie is Microsoft now, so I'll never be M$ free.

No, I didn't mean Marathon Infinity...I meant Marathon. Like I said...Marathon was original. Marathon Infinity was, IMHO, a bit of a letdown for the technology that was available at the time...y'know? Good, but if it had blown me away like the original it would've really rocked.
Listen...when all MY friends were playin' Doom, and I come around fraggin' Bobs in Marathon...they were _really_ impressed....

man, i can't remember the name of it, but it was kinda like a side-scroll Indiana Jones in a croc infested tomb. Played on my old Apple ][. I remeber that we got an accelerator card and it became impossible to play. The crocs would get ya before you could take three steps.

ok.
first of all, i'm pumped that somebody said fallout.
fallout and fallout 2 are incredible, amazing games.
i've yet to see a game w/ that much depth and options anywhere else.
other than that...
sonic 2
gta
airborne
galaxa
warcraft
quake (yes, i think ut is better than q3, but... this is about classics, not best sequels. same reason warcraft beats w2)
civ2
and... marshmellow duel.
if you've never played that... it's shareware, find it.
oh yeah.
raptor and death rally, from back when x86 shareware was the bomb.

Well, this is never a popular stance but after playing UT for the last year in my office, I finally loaded up my Quake III Arena cd and discovered it to be a much better game. Everyone in my office has now converted to Q3 and nobody wants to go back to UT.
As far as a classic game, marathon was incredible but does anyone else remember Dark Forces? That game was a blast, it single handedly got me into gamming.

Yuck, that is hard to believe. I guess you don't play CTF? I mostly just play CTF-Face in UT but there are a few other good CTF maps. In Quake I don't think there are any (that came with the game -- I haven't tried team arena; is it a free addon?).
