i heard it was possible to use my PC version of Quake 4 with the mac osX engine, but having no luck. I think i've copied tha pak's over properly, but when the game starts i get just a grey screen after it changes res. I'm not sure if it's the windows installation is the problem, or just a bug preventing me fomr running thegame on myu machine. does anyone have any experience with this>? i don't want to have to go pay 40 bucks for another version of the game I already own ...[/LIST]

The PC (and Linux) version works just fine on a Mac (even OS X at that). All you have to do is download the latest Macintosh OS X Point Release and install it. Then drag the pak.0 file from the cd to your base3 folder. That's all you need. If that is exactly what you have already done to set it up, come on back and post your troubles here and we can see what we can do.

Cool. I'd love to be able to do this with Unreal Tournament but somehow it seems unlikely. I don't play it that much anymore, but I'd hate to have to repurchase it for the few times I would. OTOH, it apparently runs like crap on even the fastest iBook.

The PC version of Unreal Tournament won't run on a Mac (it will however run on Linux). It's very well possible that Return To Castle Wolfenstein will, since most ID Software games work on both OSes.

So far, its only Quake 3. The reason is, Quake 3 has a point release. A point release installs the entire application program with the absence of the major game files. It merely acts as an update. The Quake 3 game has the same game files, and it does not matter which platform. That's why simply copying the game files to the pojnt release will make it work.

I have a hybrid copy of starcraft original, and got the pc version for broodwar from a friend. I converted it to the mac version, with a good deal of work.
It involved copying the brood war archive from the pc disk to my HD, downloading the brood war update from blizard, installing it on my computer. (PS this effectively gives you the broodwar program, all you need is the brood war files)
I then opened up the archive in resEdit, change the type to match that of the Original starcraft archive file. I then added a nice icon to this file, and burned the 500 mb file onto a cd, and voola I had a mac version of starcraft brood war from a pc version.
Doing this for unrealtournament may be possible using an ILLEGAL crack of unreal tournament that gives you the full program, and then copying the files from the pc version into the folder with the cracked program. I am pretty sure that this is illegal, so be warned. I also don't know if it is possible either, but since UT maps from the PC version work on the mac version, it may be possible. It is likely that you will have to obtain some specific files from the mac version to work, ones that are concered with system.ini or whatever it is...
