i've got an imac with an ivoodoo, and tried the beta drivers.
but if i start a game, the monitor goes sleeping. i guess that's caused by bad monitor resolutions. whre can i change them?

while i have never had that problem, you might want to make sure you also have the microconversions drivers installed (they are needed). I remeber having some problems (might have been that, i dont remember with quake 3) but you should also make yourself a optimised gaming extension set, with the ati opengl render disabled (for your internal ati graphics).

i usually leave the basic ati set on, since the microconversion drivers have problems with vgs, and the voodoo2 is horrible with 2d acceleration.

you might also want to check out pimpcinerator on versiontracker.com, it will allow you to make voodoo2.var files, that will help to adjust the gamma settings in quake 3.

if this doesnt solve your problem, please post more info (os version, game, ram, etc)

thanks with the var file, q3 runs good, but if i have installed both drivers, i have problems with deusex (glide). i think because there are 2 of them. and if i kick the glide render from the beta drivers, i can't play open gl games:-( so i have to have both installed and kick out the not needed drivers for every game?

You have leave the MicroConversions drivers installed, and install all the 3dfx drivers except the GlieLib 2.x. This will mean that your Glide games will run through the old driver, and the OpenGL ones run through the new GlideLib 3.x.Hope this helps!

I'm not at my iMac right now, so I can't give you the exact extension configuration to use. I'll try to remember to post it later. In the meantime, search this forum and the iMac forum for the proper mix. It's been posted a number of times. One thing that hasn't been mentioned here is that you must turn off the ATI OpenGL extension. If you don't you'll have problems.

I've run Diablo II and Oni both with great success. In fact, I was amazed at just how well Oni ran. There is one minor issue with Oni. When you change the resolution of Oni in the game settings, the computer appears to freeze up. All you have to do is hit return and then restart the app. I think I use 640 x 480 @ 16 bit and have the game detail at around 1/3. It still looks great and it only really slows down on large maps with lots of characters.

Use the following extensions with your iMac Gamewizard:
(the 3Dfx extensions are the Voodoo2 beta 5 extensions)

3Dfx GlideLib3.x
3Dfx OpenGL Renderer
3Dfx Rave
Game Wizard MacGlide

Turn these off:

Game Wizard Rave
OpenGL Renderer ATI

how did you run d2 and oni? if i start oni i just get half the textures. ok, thats probably because of the beta, i think i should try the demo. but diablo: if i start it and configure the video settings, at 800*600 i just get a black screen in both open gl and glide. what have you done therefor?
