Help! I just downloaded the new Myth III Demo and I'm running it under OS X v. 10.1.2. It has frozen hard on me (not allowing anything but a hardware reboot) at least 75% of the times I've opened it and tried to play anything. It sucks!
I'm running it on a Dual 450 MHz G4 with 448 MB of RAM and an ATI Rage 128 AGP card.
Any help? Are others experiencing this?

iMac DV 400Mhz. Same thing. Did you also have the errors on decompression? Often starts playing and then freezes after a minute or two.

It plays fine on my iBook 600. I downloaded it from macgamefiles.com if that makes any difference.

I dowloaded the demo. Wow!!! It runs amazing on my 867 G4...
But then after I finished the tuturial I went on to play the first mission. Well it loads about 2% and crashed. As it turns out the "large.tag" file in the tag directory of myth III is corrupt. I was notified of this by stufit, and figured that it might be ok, and the installer gave me the same warning.
So I think it might be the download that is causing you guys the problem. I am going to redue the dl tonight. (56 k modem )

Well it took me another 7 hours to download the demo again. I was so excited when I got up...
Stuffit was bouncing in the dock, so I choose it, and it said the file may be corupt (same thing as last time). I installed it, and the installeer said the large.tag file was corupt as well (same as last time).
Conclusion, the file download from macgamefiles is corupt for running the game in OS X. I have yet to rebot in 9 and retry it...

maybe try using something other than stuffit. maybe openup?
so far osx has been quite a failure for gaming. imho. i don't even bother with it.
the file works fine from os9.
or use the classic version of stuffit while in x. that should work.

I'm having a very similar problem. The demo just locks up my entire computer at different times. Sometime in the begining of the tutorial, sometimes all they way at the dwarf part. It also froze while I was listening to the intro to the first level. I already reinstalled OS X 10.1.2 and the demo. Even checked my memory chips.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Boy, this doesn't bode well for the guys who made the game or the installer.
It did lock up on me when I tried multiplayer after entering email and making a password. As soon as I entered the "nick" I wanted and clicked "Next" it was FREEZE! time.
Any fixes? This is odd. Everybody try the multiplayer section to see if it'll freeze. I'm probably going to register with Game Spy independently of the game to give it one less thing to freeze in.

Well, when I crashed again after downloading the demo again and installing it again and trying to do multiplayer again... I went into "myth_log.txt" and found this line:
gamespy_presence.cpp, line #27: gamespy presence error 3:5 "There was an error binding a socket." 1
Maybe the programmers will read this thread and know what that means, but they've got a bug in their C++ code in the file called "gamespy_presence.cpp" at line 27.
Oh well. We'll get a working demo SOMETIME.

Well that certainly looks to be a bug. Whatever function that is called in that line has returned an error which was recorded to the log file. Could also be a hardware incompatibility produced by a call of that function, which would also be a bug, since this is a network error this is unlikely. Perhaps it is caused by some sort of networking incompatability, such as settings, or something of that nature.
In OS 9 I got the game working for the first level after the tutorial. But it crashed as I was fighting the big gorilla thing that looks like something out of Lord Of The Rings. The water in this level looked like it did not have a texture, which would be explaned by the corupt large.tag file.
The game runs great in OS 9, but not so great in OS X, alot slower, I can do full settings in 9 with great frame rates, but in X the camera gets choppy.
Nothing we can do about it without having the source code... But it seems to me that this demo was released way too early. They should have kept it another two weeks, but I guess they wanted it in time for christmas. Well, my local mac store is not getting a shipment of the game till after christmas, and I was going to go down there on thursday and pick a copy up, but all these bugs have made me frustrated with the game (and thus lowered my impression of it, though I am sure if it were not for the bugs I would really like it) and made me rather hesitant about purchasing it...
Perhaps Baulder's Gate II instead?
