Preferably something I can control with the keyboard/trackpad, as I usually play on the train.

I prefer games that are NOT in real-time. I like to stop in the middle sometimes, without having to save, and resume later.

Any suggestions?

I've never seen it played, but I think I read that Baldur's Gate can be played in real time but paused when it's time to make important decisions. I'm not sure, however, if this also applies to saves and such.

Might be worthwhile to check out. I'm sure one of the denizens of this forum will correct me if I'm wrong.

well, something like civilisation call to power or the sims might suit your needs.

Even myth perhaps>?

How about baldurs gate - thats pretty cool. Its in real time, but if you hit the space bar it pauses - even during combat.

How about you be a modest fellow instead of an arrogant bastard and not flaunt your TiBook?

Quake III: Arena doesn't make full use of it's 3:2 display ratio, but sure is the most graphically impressive game I've seen - ever (working on a personal computer). Unreal 2 will rival that, but until then, Quake III: Arena has the best engine, only rivaled by that of Serious Sam.

Well, for graphics, there's always Sacrifice, but the Mac version still won't be here for a few months

I played it on a friends PIII/800/TNT2, and, WOW, those are some f**king graphics!

Any Quake III engine based game is going to be the most impressive as far as graphics. Check out Heavy Metal: FAKK2 or STV: Elite Force, those are the best graphics you can find. However I recommend using a mouse over a track pad but they can be played with a track pad. They are real-time graphics but you can pause and save at any point.
