Hi,
i canīt get FAKK2 for X to work :-/
After launching the .app, the omni logo shows up, then i get the message "Quake 3 Error - No suitable display mode found", then it quits.
Which, of course, sucks.
Reducing color depth and resolution (from originally 1280 x 1024 down to 640x480) did *not* help.
G4 400 320 MB Radeon AGP
OS X 10.0 (4K78)
any hints ?
thx :-),
shiva

What kind of monitor do you have? There used to be a similar problem with Omni's Quake 3 on X with the newer ADC monitors be it flat panel or studio.

hi,
thx for taking care :-)
I donīt own an apple monitor at all, itīs an Iiyama Vision Master Pro 450 (19"), connected via standard vga-out.
Does this mean itīs a driver related issue ?

Well the problem I mentioned was not an ATI driver problem but rather an OS X problem. Since you don't have one of those monitors I am not sure what to think. Do you have another monitor you could connect to? Oh are you running the final release of OS X or the Public Beta? If its the beta then it could be that same bug because it was not fixed until shortly before the final release. Also have you done a clean install of X? Not an overlay?

Hi Eric,
after connecting the radeon to my old 15" EIZO FlexScan Monitor which used to be my second screen in OS 9, i get the same message.
A reader of the xlr8yourmac-forum pointet out that i should thrash the .cfg-files of FAKK and try again. Well, first it worked ! I got the orange screen (still on the 15") and the FAKK 2 menu. Then I rebootet und plugged the 19" Iiyama back on the radeon, startet FAKK2 and was able to get the FAKK2 menu. Since I still had 640x480 resolution in the game, I went to the graphics menu and switched to 1152x864. FAKK2 then did the what you might call graphical restart, and i got my "quake 3 error - no suitable display mode found" back.
:-(
Since then i wasnīt able to get it working again. Even doing exactly the same thing (radeon -> 15" + trashing .cfgs) didnīt work, which is strange because that worked before.
Then I did a reinstall of FAKK2, which didnīt help either.
I really donīt know whatīs going on. OS 9 troubleshooting was definitely much less pain...
As I mentioned in my first post, itīs OS X 4k78 (retail), which is installed on a fresh-formatted harddisk (no overlay).
My full setup:
G4 400 AGP (non-gigabit)
320 MB RAM
10 GB + 60 GB Harddisks
Retail ATI Radeon
OS X retail
newest firmware
(voodoo3 de-installed before installation of OS X, and didnīt put it in the g4 since)
an ideas ?
thx,
shiva

Well it sounds like you chose a resolution that either your monitor does not support or OS X and quite possibly FAKK don't think your monitor supports. I would trash everything FAKK on your machine, reinstall FAKK, zap the P-RAM on restart and try to see if you can play the game for a little while at 640x480. I would avoid that resolution you had trouble with and stick with the more common ones like 800x600, 1024x768. This is a beta release so there are bound to be issues. You should also consult Omnis page and bug list for the game. We are working with them to get this game as bug free as possible.

Well, i guess iīll just stay with OS 9 for gaming for the moment.
Maybe itīll work with the next release.
Thanks for looking into it.

You missed an X FAKK2 preference file.
`/Library/Preferences/com.ritual_entertainment.plist
(the exact file name is longer I think, viewing it in OS 9 only shows 31 characters)
