Thank the gods. It's finally gone gold.

Now we just have to wait 2 weeks to see it on the shelves...

I was all happy until I saw this quote from MacGamers:

"The version of Castle Wolfenstein that will be shipping is not the current version for PC (1.21) though programmer Duane Johnson is working on that patch now and it should be released soon. (Thanks, Peter)"

...I had to shake my head in disgust and disappointment. "We're waiting for iD to give us the nod...really we are? We're all done over here, there's nothing else we can do...it's up for iD to give us the thumbs up."

I'll be sitting here patiently waiting for the obligatory "Yeah, well iD never gave us the latest source code, so we couldn't work on it."

Can I see the contract? I bet that it's written "Thou shalst release a patch...thou shalst not release a complete and bug-free boxed version" somewhere in there.

It's honestly no biggie, but it would have been fun to have a boxed version that didn't require a patch.

I'm expecting a flood of rollie eyes from the lot of you though. How could I expect less?

True...could have been an Alien vs. Predator repeat or even worse...a Halflife repeat!

"Yeah, I know you guys have ported 99% of of our game...we just don't feel like you should release it though. It was all an elaborate joke."

And then Sierra/Valve have the nerves to tell us it's the Mac gamers' fault for pushing them to release it and whining about no Mac-to-PC support etc...

Well...that's not the point. Just because most games come out and have to be patched doesn't mean Westlake should do the same...especially since the game is released 5 months later than the PC version. They had plenty of time to implement the new code (assuming iD gave them the code...I hope they didn't though because that would really make Westlake look bad if they had the code for over 2 months and didn't bother putting it in waiting for iD's approval to ship RTCW.)

ID seems to be on of the Kings of CD key protection in games and such.

They didn't. Glenda Adams to Macgamer.com:

The 1.3 patch on the PC introduced an anti-cheat technology called PunkBuster. Unfortunately for security reasons, Westlake couldn't have access to the PunkBuster source code, and so the original PC developer of Punk Buster, Even Balance, is working on a Mac Punk Buster library. Rather than delay the game even longer while waiting for everything to be wrapped up with that, it seemed like a better to ship the older version, and keep working on 1.31 while the game goes through duplication/distribution.

Whoa buddy, calm down, i'm no pirate, The only reason I even CONSIDERED getting the Beta 3 copy is because I COULDN'T get a paid copy. I assure you that all my other games ARE paid copies.
