It is carbonized and I really look forward to play it on OS X. I'd like to know if anyone has played it on OS X and can compare it to Baldur's Gate II on OS X. To make a long question short, does the carbonization of Icewind Dale suck as much as BG2?
I want my Icewind Dale... But I have one week until final exams this semester. No time for wasting time!

Icewind Dale seems to run nice and clean on OS X. Been playing it since Monday nite and had no trouble at all, save for one crash on loading an area that has not repeated itself. Plays very smoothly.

Life is like a clay pigeon -- sooner or later, someone is going to shoot you down and even if they miss you'll still wind up shattered and broken in the end.

Yes, it seems to run very well on OS X, much smoother than BG 2 actually. It run on the original BG engine however, so it's not as graphic and processor intensive as BG2. The graphics themselves are not on par with BG 2 but the fight scenes are good.

I don't own any RPG's. If I'm going to buy one, is Icewind the best choice, or should I wait for Neverwinter?

NWN and IW are two very different games. NWN is a MMORPG and IW is primarily a single player although you can play with another person via TCP/IP. If you want a great single player, get BG2. If not, you may want to wait around until NWN is released this summer. I love both BG2 and IW, IW might have slightly better battles but BG2 has a much better story, it's 3 times as big after all.

Thanks for the advice. Don't do the network play stuff, so I'll look into BG2.
Why did voodoo bash BG2?
"does the carbonization of Icewind Dale suck as much as BG2?"
I take it the port to OS X was not very good?

I have to say that I really like Icewind Dale far more than BG2. While there certainly are a few tricky places and objects to find, you don't really get bogged down in the endless searching that happens in BG2. Some might argue that IWD is too linear, but I found BG2 to be too convoluted!
IWD is one fight scene after another. Some of the creatures I've come up against so far are really difficult to beat (I must admit that I spend a lot of time running to a safe spot to rest and revitalize!). If you don't like endless fighting, against harsh odds, then this game is not for you.
Finally, and this is the deciding factor, IWD plays very nicely in OS X. BG2 doesn't!

The first version of BG2 was buggy, slow, and didn't work well at certain resolution. The latest version fixes a lot of issues and is a pleasure to play now. I must say that IWD plays extremely well and smoothly, better than BG2. The graphics in BG2 are twice as good as in IWD, but IWD uses the old BG1 engine which I suppose has much fewer demands on the processor. The interface for IWD is not nearly as polished as BG2's interface.

Icewind Dale was carbonized very well. The team over at MacPlay did an excellent job. In early stages, the game ran like a slug on my iBook under X, but with the release build, IWD screams. Buy it. It's fun, but it's an entirely different animal than BG2.

The latest version of BG2 is 1.1.1 and while it does fix a lot of performance issues compared to the original release, it is NO match for BG2 in OS 9.
BG2 in OS 9 play just right, fast and stable.
I bought BG2 because it was 'built for OS X', as it said on the box. What a bunch of crap. It was built for OS 9, and rather sloppily converted to OS 10. I'll give them that OS 10 is far from perfect and there may be some silly bugs in it yet.
Any news on Throne of Bhaal? Is it to be released for the Mac?

First, NWN isn't a MMORPG, and second, it will have a single player campaign like BG, IWD, etc. Multiplayer in NWN will be with a small group and a dungeon master (who controls the game). So it's really nothing like an MMORPG.

Actually, I heard you can play up to 50 people in one game for nvn, with a dungeon master running it.
Sounds pretty awesome.
Cant wait to use my level 21 monk in it....
