I'm only a casual gamer. I have a B&W G3 450 MHz with ATA hard drives and 1 GB RAM. When I was using the Voodoo 5500 PCI all the games I tried played great. Because I wanted to use OS X I changed video cards to the Radeon PCI. I notice only a slight difference playing Quake2 but the Voodoo was better. Huge difference playing Unreal Tournament. The mouse movement is choppier and the graphics are generally just less smooth. As for Quake3 Team Arena, I can't even boot it up! The intro movie plays fine but when the game begins my screen goes red and orange and the computer freezes. Sometimes I can hear a voice say "crash" but that's about it. Sometimes I get the lower half of the screen to display the Q3 logo with the red and orange on the top half of the screen. The only thing I've changed is the video card. I have OS X on a second hard drive so that can't be the problem. I have tried using only a base set of extensions including the stuff for the Radeon, all to no avail. Anybody know how to get better performance out of UT or how to get any performance out of Q3?

You need to get the latest drivers from our website which are version 1.1.1 There is a bug in Open GL that affects pci cards in pre G4 machines. These drivers contain a work around for that bug allowing those games to run until Open GL is updated. UT should run fine with those drivers as well.

Frag on,

Oh, YEAH! I went to the ATI web site and downloaded the Radeon 1.1.1 Drivers, installed with extensions off and everything works great! I still suck at Q3 but thats beside the point.
