Has anyone tried FreeCraft? They say it runs on MacOS and MacOS X. Yes, I already have WarCraft 1/2 but this seems like a pretty mature free alternative.

Dunno, dude, it looks like a really really cheap --well it's free-- rip off of Warcraft. And personally, I think I would rather fork over the $20 for the full set if I wanted Warcraft.

I suppose you're right. Oh well, it doesn't really matter in this case since I already have Warcraft+expansion packs, but it is kind of disappointing that MacOS X hasn't brought any great games to the Mac (yet?). I tried TuxRacer yesterday and it is sort of fun, but not great. What I really want to get is Deus Ex but I won't get it until it works in OS X.

They're coming, dude. Patience. Yeah, I hate having to boot into 9 for games. Deus Ex, UT, Starcraft, D2 all need to make it to X sometime this summer.

Seriously, go fork over the bucks for a real, commercially-developed game. Or at least some good shareware. I'm all for open-source development, but stuff like this and FreeCiv just don't cut it, unless you're on a Linux system that you can't get many good games for.

Honestly, I don't know why people waste their time with that stuff, unless it's just some kind of exercise. They've been working on it since 1999, and it still looks crummy. Meanwhile, tiny shops like Ambrosia and Fantasoft crank out quality products in less time.

Face it, these programs will never get done, they'll just be endlessly tinkered with in "pre-release" form. Unless you want to noodle around with the game code, it's not worth the trouble.
