Has anyone tried playing Deus Ex on RevB? The box/web specs are somewhat ambiguous, stating rev c and higher, but listing clearly rev b limits. Just enough to make me think I can squeak by, anyhow...

before I buy it I want to know I can play it...

I think your Rev. B should be able to handle it if you have plenty of physical RAM. I think they should realistically list 128 MB physical as the minimum with the recommended being 192 MB.

You could always give the demo a try to see how it does. Take into account that the first level of the game (the one included in the demo) pushes the graphics card and processor pretty hard (being almost completely outdoor) and that performance will improve significantly in the later levels of the actual game.

thanks... I have 64 physical RAM, which I've been planning to upgrade to 192.

I'll give the demo a shot. Good to know the performance improves.

Yeah, I kind of felt that was a pretty gutsy design decision to put that taxing level as the opening scene in the game (and in the demo as well). However, if you look at the track record of the producer and lead designer (Warren Spector and Harvey Smith), you can tell that they've never let such technical issues hold back exactly what they want to put in their game and how it's presented.

Well, I think it'll play like ass on your computer. You REALLY REALLY REALLY need lots of ram for this game, so upgrade that first.... Also, I'm not sure how well your rage pro would handle it. I'd highly suggest the gamewizard card.

I have a 333mhz iMac with 192 megs ram (not enough for this game, needs like 200), and a gamewizard voodoo2. The first level, it was pretty choppy. From then on, it plays BEAUTIFULLY, in high quality everything 800X600. Its simply beautiful to look at and to play, cant say much more than that. Oh yeah, and its worth upgrading your computer for, as this is the best game I have ever played. However, PLEASE upgrade your computer first, I couldnt imagine playing on it with low detail, it just wouldnt be the same, you couldnt read all the neat syuff on the walls...

You can run it on your machine ok with low graphics settings (still looks ok) but you will need a lot more Ram (you will for most things nowadays, apart from surfing the W).
I would get 256MB Ideally, but you should be ok with between 160 & 192MB (I've got 192MB and a REV C iMac)
P.S 33Mhz doesn't make any difference in the real world.

Ok, well now I've downloaded the demo, thanks to new cable...

By using virtual mem, I got as far as the training grounds before it froze. grrr. Since restart, I've only been able to get as far as the control panel configs--I'm attempting to lower the standards even more.

Ok, I really will buy more memory now...

Hey Cash, is this the card you have? I found this at smalldog... does it connect via the mythical mezzanine port?

That's a regular pci card that you found. The imac gamewizard is only 8 Mb. Follow this to see it: http://eshop. macsales.com/search.taf?_process=search&Parent=&Title=& amp;Template=gamewizard&Item=GWIMAC&ID=117 0&Set=1&TI=4405&_UserReference=04C3697 BF848E84039BAAEB1

And Deus Ex will work fine on your rev B. if you get plenty of ram. I play it on my rev A with most all settings on high using imac gamewizard and 192 megs of ram.

Dues Ex runs just fine on my iMac 350 w/128 MB RAM, and the stock Rage 128 VR...

Settings are (in the order they are listed in the Display settings window):
•800x600
•32-bit
•Medium
•High
•on
•on

How do learn what the framerate is?
Be happy.

This was discussed at http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/Foru...L/000120.html, but the general consensus was that no one knew. DE is based on the Unreal engine, however, so framerates will be quite similar between the two games.

No, unfortunatly, the levels in DE are gargantuan, and they get crap FPS compared to UT

Oh yeah,a nd you can turn on the FPS indicator using the Deus Ex cheats (reffered to in its own topic) but I wouldnt. It'd just sorta make you feel bad about your mac.

Especially the dance club scene... lucky money or whatever? Wow. hello 10FPS
