Do we mac users have anything that will compare to the Wizardry series for windows? I guess I want to know what the best RPG (NOT online) available is.
Oppinions?

Well, it's not exactly the same format as Wizardry (the first-person perspective as you walk through hallways, etc.) but for a good RPG, you can't beat the Baldur's Gate series. An offshoot of that, Icewind Dale, is probably the closest you'll get to Wizardy.

Not much compares to good old Wizardry -- its absence from the Mac is sorely missed.
RPGs for Macs seem to be, alas, far and few between.
That said, some good RPGs:
* Deus Ex (and the upcoming Deus X 2) -- a hybrid action/RPG, but Warren Spector, and excellent.
* Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 -- haven't played, but they get good reviews.
* Diablo 1 & 2 -- if you consider these RPGs, that is.
If you like roguelikes, there's always the eternal Angband and NetHack. Angband is working very nicely on OS X.
Good luck.

Oh, also King of Dragon Pass is a very unique game with wonderful writing and strong RPG elements that I very strongly recommend checking out.
Not carbonized for OS X, unfortunately, but it runs mostly OK under Classic.

Not too many old school Wizardry fans left, I take it...?
(sigh)

I played the Wizardry 8 demo that came with PC Gamer a few months back (not on my computer, of course!).
IMHO, it severely sucked. Bad graphics, no story, terrible combat system, boring sound... what's to like!?

Be happy.

I played one Wizardry game all the way through (using the hintbook...) on my LC III back in the days. Similar games? Baldur's Gate and Deus Ex are two very good games. The Might & Magic games (not Heroes) are also similar.

The low-end Mac Pro is the most overpriced Mac since the IIvx

Well, it might be just through the haze of nostalgia, but I've always found the 'Wizardry' series unique. The balance of gameplay and some quirky, devilish writing make for a place in my heart.
I haven't played W8, but it's gotten some pretty good reviews. The 'demo' was just a random level -- wasn't supposed to be much. Certainly no story there, and little of the great character-building.
Anyway, the series is no more, so I'm not trying to spearhead its revival on the Mac or anything. Just a fond memory... WI: 'The Proving Grounds' was the first game I really got into, back on my ancient Apple IIe.
