Blizzard Entertainment Tech Support has supplied some tips for resolving CD Key problems with
Diablo II before calling them for assistance.
1. If you were just disconnected or are returning from a crash and the dialog box shows your name as the person using your CD key, wait five minutes and the problem will likely resolve itself.
2. If the problem does not resolve itself after 5-10 minutes, use the
Realm Selector Tool [75K] to change realms and then try logging in again.
3. If, after trying these solutions, you are still unable to log in successfully to Battle.net, then call Blizzard Tech Support for further assistance.
CD Keys are never transferred between the client and server, so "sniffing" packets is not a viable way for a hacker to obtain your CD Key. A random key generator used by persons illegally may generate your key by chance. You may be required to send your empty jewel case to Blizzard to prove the legitimacy of your copy of Diablo II in which case they'll give you a temporary CD key until a new CD key can be assigned to you upon validation of your copy.
