I've been playing a beta with all of the cars and tracks available and it's a pretty phenomenal game. Unfortunately, the Mac version of this first public beta doesn't include FUNCTIONAL networking which could be one of the key selling points of the product. That should be fixed pretty soon, and then Mac users can see how the game does online.

One other current quirk is the controller setup; I hope that they really work on that before release.

By the way, 4x4 Evolution, without a doubt, plays best on a Voodoo5 with FSAA. It's absolutely stunning with all of the jaggies on the car and such gone. Truly one of those games that shines on the Voodoo5.

I think the game was good but the sound could be much better (of course it's only in beta though). The gameplay was good and I'm really happy to finally be able to play a racing game on my B&W G3 350! I don't include Carmageddon as a "racing" game - that's more to do with hit what you can.

I think this is shaping up to be a pretty good game, (needs the multiplayer though) but where/whom do we report the bugs too?
Isn't one of the main reasons for realeasing a Beta to gather feedback on it?
I have noticed stability issues, I can only play one "full" race & then the game crashes, If I go into the Multiplayer srceen the game freezes with strange graphic anomalies, and gamepad, joystick support is non existent dispite this functionality supposedly being available in the Beta (Gimme InpuSrockets configuration screen) & as everyone has said, the sound is a bit naff.
I'm not complaining about these Bugs, (after all this is a Beta) I'm complainig that there seems to be know way of easily reporting them to GOD/Terminal Reality, so they can sort them out, which I thought was the point of a public Beta.

From both the installer and the Read Me in the 4x4 folder:

HOW TO GET HELP

The purpose of the beta is to get feedback from you the consumer on 4x4 Evolution. If you encounter any problems, have any ideas, or have a suggestion on how to make something better please let us know. You can get help by visiting the 4x4 Evolution Beta site at:
http://www.4x4evolution.com/beta

At the forum you can post problems, suggestions, get help, or share your ideas with other beta testers. All of the team at Terminal Reality will be reading the forum and listening to your feedback. If you do not want to post on the forum you can send a bug report to:

beta@4x4evolution.com

All emails sent to that address will be read and added to our bug database.

Try here for the small download, and here for the one with sprockets and OpenGL and all that crap.
Here is the site with the links to the download pages.
Those servers are pretty damn slow mind you... was only getting like 2-10 K/s on two of them, and only 90K/s on the one I finally had to settle on...
Personally I think the game is pretty ordinary, although it is only beta...

I find that the game runs way too slow on my iMac DVSE 400. I don't know if it's the beta or my crappy video card. Does the game run much better on the newer iMacs and G4s? Can I expected the final version to run noticably faster on my mac?

The final releases will always be much faster than the ß's... The ß still has all sorts of junk code and debug code and what not...
The speed isn't great on my G4 400, with all the settings highest...
But after playing for the first time, just deleted it.
It just wan't any fun... I'd much rather go fragging in UT.

Well, I tried running it both ways. First time, I tried using OpenGL and found it to be ass slow. I had to lower everything, make it look like junk, and then it ran OK. Then I restarted to use my gamewizard glide drivers, and BOOM! The game magically looked 80 times better and ran 80 times as fast. I dont see why people hate glide, I think it freaking ROCKS compared to OpenGl-crap.

The OpenGL version works just dandy on my good ol' G4/450 - even with VM on!
I will try it on my iMac DV SE/400 tonight.
All in all, it looks great guys!

runs very smooth on my DVSE(400).

I've even upped the quality level without taking any noticable hit in frames.

Runs very fast!
