Having trouble configuring mouse to work in UT Demo. I have a Logitech two button wheel mouse and whenever I load UT, the mouse only moves horizontally. I have tried USB Overdrive but no luck. Maybe I am configuring it wrong! Help! I really want to play. I have a 400 G3 Powerbook with 160MB (128MB allocated to UT). Any suggestions? Feel free to post or email me at sgs5000@home.com.

the trackpad control panel may be interfering with USB overdrive. I know they are on seperate busses, etc, but the current Mac OS is really starting to show it's age, fragmented to hell, etc. try disabling the trackpad panel, that might help. if you have any other control panels that control your input devices, those could also be interfering the USB overdrive.

I know this is off topic, but bad luck.
You say you're using the demo - trust me, the demo really doesn't do this game justice.
The full version is so much better... just keep that in mind if you plan on getting it.
UT Demo didn't even let me use RAVE...

Yeah, I know. But I would like to be able to play a little bit so I know that UT will work ok on my system.

As a note, the initial UT Demo didn't do RAVE as it was a 3dfx exclusive arrangement which used Glide and software rendering only. However, a short time after that the "full" demo was released which offered both Glide and RAVE.

Maybe it is the demo. I have the full version and the exact same mouse and everything is just fine. I can even use the wheel to toggle through the weapon selection. (Thanks to USB Overdrive)

There's no question that Unreal Tournament and games that use the Unreal engine run best in Glide with 3dfx hardware. Epic is trying to change that for PC users with their newly announced relationship with Nvidia to improve performance with their cards on their future games. I'm expecting Nvidia to announce their official plans for releasing a Mac version of the GeForce2 MX in early 2001.

Epic has also publicly announced that they will not support any 3D API other than DirectX (DirectDraw, methinks) in their future game releases, so you can count out Glide in the very near future. Chances are the company hired to do ports will go directly to RAVE/OpenGL from now on.

Thanks for the info...but can we get back to the topic at hand? I'm having trouble with mouse configuration. The graphics capabilities are not an issue. Does anybody have a specific list of extensions/control panels for a Logitech Mouseman Wheel or a Contour Design mouse. I am asking about specific drivers for each and what other system extensions/control panels should be active. Thanks for everyone's help.

I completely removed all of my Logitech software. I think there was a conflict between Logitech's extension and USB Overdrive. I can't remember, it's been so long. Anyways, I only have the USB Overdrive extensions and control panel installed. Also, make sure that all of the InputSprocket extensions are loaded too. See if that fixes it. If not, just buy the full version. Trust me, it's worth every penny.

After launching the Demo select Input Device from the preferences menu. There, you can program the buttons on your mouse to do whatever you want, including the wheel.

The general consensus with gamers when using a Logitech or Microsoft mouse is to immediately disable the company's custom software, download, install and buy USB Overdrive in conjunction with the latest Game Sprockets. That solution seems to work best.

Is everyone using Game Sprockets 1.7.5, released on 8-25-00? Just trying to figure out the best configuration. Thanks!

I had the same problem with the Logitech MouseMan optical 'wheel' mouse playing UT 413 (full). Only solution was to disable the MouseWorks software or swap mice.

After upgrading to MouseWare 3.5.1( just released by Logitech) and Gamesprockets 1.7.5, all is well playing UT , the mouse works fine.
