Has anyone else had a problem using OS 9.04 and the Civ II CD (Gold or classic-both have the problem)? When I place the CD in the drive I get two CD images one called Civ II the other called Audio CD. All the music is on the Audio CD so when I play the game I get no music. Sounds (like wood chopping) are audible but not background music. The music option box is checked and I've even tried selcting a particular music, but no success. Even starting with just base 9.04 extensions I get the problem. Any suggestions? Please help.

Are you using a third-party CD driver besides Apple CD/DVD Driver?

No- Just the the ones that came with OS9.04. I did a clean install of OS 9.0 and all worked fine. Updated the Civ 2 with the patch and it still worked. Updated to OS 9.04 and the music no longer played. Updated Apple DVD/CD software and the music was still broken. Had to do another clean install to get things working again.
Discussed this with the MacSoft /WizWorks guys and they are looking into it.

Age of Empires does the same thing...
I think it is a partitioned CD--half audio CD, half data CD.

I have the same problem... worked great in 8.6... not so much in 9.0.4. The reason sounds work is that they are installed on your hard drive, or at the very least are on the "data" portion of the CD. I have yet to figure out a solution to this problem. Let me know if you find out anything.

Cheers!
