Looking for some advice... To get any performance out of Diablo2, I have to follow Blizzard's recommendations for minimal graphics(no perspective), no music, no sound.. yet it still stutters badly. I have reduced my gaming extension set to system minimums.

G4/350 | 9.04 | 320MB RAM | Rage128Pro | VM on | DSL

Great game, but I think I'm missing something to make it run well. Envy when playing friend's peecee p3/333 w/82MB RAM is not right!

What video mode are you running in? The game has dismal RAVE support, so I reccommend using software rendering, actually. It's the fastest.

I'm on an iMac 350/9.0.4 & X Beta/128 MB/Rage 128 VR/Cable modem

I am running Diablo 2 on a G4 350 also. First, turn off Virtual Memory, with 320 Megs of Ram you can easily run with it off. I am using RAVE and it seems to work the best. You also might try getting the control strip module called "G4 strip" it lets you increase you cache speed. I am running it at 233MHz, a ratio of 1:1.5, and I get a slight increase in gaming proformance. Increasing the memory for the game doesn't seem to help but you can try.

thx for the advice... I'll try those options. I also downloaded and installed the new 1.03c update last night. http://www.versiontracker.com/redir....Update.sit.hqx

it works great and seemed to help he stuttering. Battle.net ran fine. haven't tried to add back rendering features yet. here's hoping!

Also try copying the "Diablo II Music" file from the Play Disc to the "Diablo II Files" folder on your hard drive. That way, while you're playing the game, it isn't actually accessing anything from the disc.

Helped my performance a little...

thx for the help.. I already had loaded all sound files onto the G4. It was still stuttering.

However, with the new 1.03c patch, I seem to be having better frame rates. I turned on all effects (music, perspective, lighting, etc) last night and played Battle.net and Single player modes allright. The only problem (which may be Battle.net servers) was a one crash of my machine when quitting (Save and Exit Game dialog), and a couple of game hangs. HTH

It may be me, but since I installed the Beta of OS X on my G4/350 (AGP) I get much better RAVE and OpenGL performance on all games when I boot back into OS9. I've noticed that both files have changed in the system folder (Classic RAVE and an update OpenGL). The weird thing is it doesn't seem to affect frame rate tests but actual playing speeds a much improve. This is true of Diablo II, UT and Quake III. I can run QIII at 1024x768 in 32-bit with everything on and textures at one below max and the speed is excellent! Deus Ex and UT run smooth at the same res with everything max and 32-bit.

Anyone else noticed an improvement with OS9 after X?

Chris.
