I don't recommend SimCity 3000. If you can find a copy of SimCity 2000, it's much better. IMO.

Oh no, SC3K is much better...

What does SC2K offer that 3K doesn't? I mean, I guess 3K sucks if you have less than 128 MB RAM... but that's something all we gamers have, no?

Exactly. I had SC3K and effectively returned it. OTOH, SC2K is nice! And I was running 192MB of RAM (not virtual!) in the machine I ran SC3K in. I just found the interface to be awful, the graphics to be monstrously huge, and the game to be less playable.

My copy of SC1.1 doesn't work on current hardware, unfortuntately. Still, SC2K works nicely, is still available as of a few months ago, and is noticably cheaper than the newer one.

It isn't that SimCity is a bad port (although the interface is terrible), it that it uses 2D graphics.

Video card manufacturers have been significantly increasing 3D performance while virtually ignoring 2D.

If it makes you feel better, Windows users have to have a pretty powerful PC to run Sim City 3000 too.

Hate to tell you, but it's all 2D. We don't have holographic displays yet.

Man, it would be very cool to have a holgraphic display! Imagine what games would be like?

OK, who's developing one?

There is one in development, although is only 2 'pixels' deep.

Polygons = 3D
Sprites = 2D

SimCity 3000 uses sprites.

SC3K ran like a dog (by my standards) on my iMac DV w/ 256 MB RAM.

I tried hard to like the game, but eventually the performance got to me.

You gotta have a fast drive for SC3k as it seems to load a lot data from the HD. When I replaced my G4s stock HD with a Maxtor 40 GB 7200 RPM drive i saw a big increase in performance.

I'm dating myself a bit, but SIM City was orginally a macintosh game. It was ported to the PC....

Did you know that this would happen?
