I have an ACD and Quake3 looks gorgeous on it. Some say the image isn't as stable in fast games like quake3 but I haven't really noticed any difference. LCDs are brighter and have better contrast than regular CRTs which makes for a very nice gaming experience. And most importantly to me, LCDs are MUCH easier on the eyes. I used to wake up with bags under my eyes after playing Quake, not so anymore. gl.

Well, I have an iBook. If you use the highest screen resolution, it looks great. If you scale it down any, things start getting a little soft around the edges, but overall it is a really nice experience. I like the LCD better than the CRT iMac I had.

Those bags under the eyes are from playing Quake all night and not getting enough sleep.

Personally, for playing FPS games, like Unreal Tournament, I prefer LCD displays because of their pixel sharpness - makes it easier to distinguish shapes, IMHO.
Works for me

LCD displays have more latency between the time you move the mouse and the pixels move accordingly. I used to be a very hardcore gamer, and I saw tremendous difference between my 19-inch CRT and 15-inch TFT. Both of them ran off the same GeForce3.
CRT's refresh lots faster than TFT screens. CRT's refresh at up to 200 hertz, whereas the fastest TFT's refresh at 70 hertz.
Even so, I strongly recommend the TFT because the image quality is admittedly more vivid and crisper. If you are a hardcore gamer who plays religiously, get the CRT. I just can't play with the ghosting and lag of LCD's... well, at least.
