I am thinking of getting VPC for a variety of reasons, to run on my grape iMac DV 400Mhz. A lesser reason is to run the occasional PC game that requires a 3D accelerator, such as Aliens vs. Predator or Force Commander. I do not wish to purchase and trick out a PC, though that would be the best solution. I simply want a reasonably-performing solution.
With VPC and Windows 98 installed, will it be possible to install such PC games and have them recognize the iMac's built-in ATI Rage card which works great for Mac games?
Thanks for any insight.

VPC, to put it simply, sucks at games. And if you are going to try to run them (albeit with terrifyingly low framerates), Win98 won't quite cut it either. Windows 95 is the only one that runs comparably to an actual PC.
You'll also need 192 MB RAM to get any resonable performance out of VPC...
I don't know, it seems like all the good games have been, or are in the process of, being ported to Macintosh.

Thanks for the input about RAM, Windows 95, etc. I'll take all that into consideration.
First though, I want to know if the PC games will recognize the 3D card on the iMac.

VPC will only recognize a Voodoo1 or Voodoo2 card for 3D acceelration in PC games. Also, you mentioned Aliens vs. Predator -- the game is in the late stages of development for the Mac and will ship probably later this month or in November. It's looking absolutely fantastic and they put in a lot of time optimizing it so iMac users can get in on this tremendous game. :-)

No. It cant. VPC can only call upon a card that isnt already being used, and sicne your Ati Rage Blow is being used for 2d alreayd, it wont be able to do 3d in VPC.
VPC sucks at games.

Thanks Cash. That's what I needed to know.
Guess I'll have to locate a PC at some point for those games.
Meanwhile, I can still have fun with my iMac.
