Warcraft 3 is Definitely Playable (in OS 9) on an iBook 466! I just wish to stress this point, since there maybe individuals out there who are apprehensive about purchasing the title. My machine is an iBook 466 with 320MBs of RAM. I haven't tried running Warcraft 3 on 10.1 yet, because I need to upgrade to 10.1.3 or higher to do so. I can't wait to see how it runs in Jaguar, since a user has reported gains in that respect even over OS 9 performance.

The point here is the game is definitely playable on my machine. I don't know how people possibly managed to get the game to play poorly on much higher end systems, since it's fine for me. The cut-scene in-engine cinematics work without lag. The characters react quickly as well. Now granted the graphics I get aren't as good as what's on the box, but they are certainly tolerable. In the Blizzard literature it states that an "ATi card or an nVidia with 16MBs of RAM" is a minimum requirement. Since my performance has been better than expected, I've been wondering whether that 16MB statement applies more specifically to nVidia cards. . .

The only thing that's sort of annoying is scrolling - it does lag enough to be bothersome. I try to minimize mouse scrolling and don't use any sweeping mouse moves. I also turned off "Positional Audio," which the manual suggested for extra speed.

For LCD users one major tip I have is to set it at your native resolution. (Remember in order to do so, you must access Options: Video from the main game menu - it can't be changed during a stage in-progress.) The game defaulted to 640x480 and initially things didn't look that great. When I switched back to my native 800x600, things looked much better and I felt no performance penalty. You may also wish to increase your gamma - it was also set too low for my liking by default.
