Hey all. I just picked up the expansion pack for D2 today, looks sweet. Only problem is...I can't get it to work! I've installed a fresh copy of D2 1.08 and LoD, and after it asks me to pick a character, the load screen comes up, and then BAM! it crashes. I get a D2 generated error box with some information that made no sense to me. I can get a screenshot soon enough, but has anyone else experienced instability with D2:LoD?

Thanks in advance.

D2:LoD has been running great on my iBook. I've had no problems with it at all. But get that screenshot and we'll see what we can figure out...

Couple things to try that never do any harm:
  • Zap the PRAM
  • Rebuild the desktop
  • Allocate more memory to D2
  • Try a different video setting. If you're using RAVE, try OpenGL or Software mode...

I already rebuilt the desktop and put D2's memory allocation at 150MB from 73MB.

Any idea?

Don't allocate more memory to Diablo II than the default setings. When the game needs more memory it allocates it via the system heap, so you don't want to give Diablo II too much memory.

You may have to reinstall Diablo II and delete the game preferences. Remember to save the Save folder if you want to keep your old single player characters.

Bloody hell. Alright, I'll change back the memory settings, and if needed, I'll reinstall too. Dammit, this thing takes FEREVER to install!

Oh well...

what was your comp? Do you have any extra addon's that might be messing it up?

Works great on DP 450, 400%500 Pismo's.

KICK ASS!!!! IT'S WORKING!!!

Thanks -Q-, a2daj, and Juan! I reinstalled the whole thing, updated it to the latest version, installed LoD and BAM! Everything is working fine! LoD is REALLY sweet!

Thanks all!

P.S. Juan, I have a Pismo/400 with 192MB RAM and a 20GB HD. Runs alright in RAVE, but I might try software rendering.

Glad I could be of help. For a big performance boost, turn off the music (turn the volume all the way down. If you hate using the CD, you can make a special type of disc image that will allow you to play Diablo II without your physical CD (make sure you have 650 free MB of HD space though.

To make the disc image, you have to use a program called DVDExtractor. A quick search on google will get you a link to it pretty easily. Once you save the Diablo II disk as an image, you can use Resedit to change the image's creator code to DVDX. By changing the creator code, you will be able to double click the image to load it (or put an alias in the Startup Items). If you don't want to go through the hassle, I would recommend copying over the Diablo II Expamsion Music and Movies file from your CD to your HD. You can place them where all the other Diablo II files reside. That way, the only time you have to worry about CD spinup is when you're starting up the game. You also save about 300 MB of HD space by copying just those files over. Note, you can eject the CD after you startup the game if you have copied over the two previously mentioned files.

Hey, thanks for the tip! I vaguely remember reading about copying over the Music and Movies file from the CD to the hard drive. Seeing as I got space t burn, I might just do that. Again, thanks!
