Has anyone tried using Amercian McGee's Alice on a ibook 2? Where I live, there are no local retailers with any copies yet. The only way for me to test compatability/performance was to download a pirated image(I couldn't find a demo). People, I *AM* going to purchase this game as soon as I get my hands on it, but before I do I wanted to know if it is playbable on my ibook. So I burnt the disc image and tried to install. That was successful. When I try to launch it however, the game quits with error message " couldn't load default.cfg". What is causing this error? Is it a corrupt image or is my machine not up to the task. Has anyone with an ibook2 had any luck playing this game with the retail cd?

Thanx

It plays fine on my iBook 2. It requires the original CD in the drive tho'. Your problems might be related to the disc image you downloaded. I tried to make a disc image of the game so I could play w/out carrying the CD around and the game wouldn't run w/out a CD actually in the drive. Could be there's some copy protection on the disk that prevent a copy from working. I haven't actually tried burning the disk image to CD to see what would happen...

But it does play fine. My specs: iBook 2, OS 9/X (Alice will play in X relatively well), 10 GB HDD, 384 MB RAM.

If you want the game to work without the cd in the drive, all you have to do is make an image using DiskCopy or ShrinkWrap with the exact same name as the disc(the title of the CD when it shows up on the desktop). Also, the image can be any size.
Mac mini 1.25/512/40
iBook 600/384/20/
iMac 233/288/4/

I made the disc image with ShrinkWrap and Disk Copy and it didn't work. The prevailing theory is that the game goes and looks for the CD in the physical drive to provide a basic level of copy protection.

Haven't confirmed that with anyone official, but that supports the experience I'm having...
