I have a B/W G3/450 512M RAM and a Radeon PCI card in the 66MHz slot.

When I launch Alice or Quake or Heavy Metal the screen flickers then the game quits!

They work in OS 9.1, they even work in OS X 10.0.4 if I reinstall my Rage 128 card (albeit very slow!)

I have tried the Radeon card in one of the 33MHz slots - but with no luck.

Help!

So you're having your problems in OS X?

Are you using the newest ATI Radeon drivers? Have you downloaded all patches and updates for the games? I seem to remember seeing a patch or update recently for Heavy Metal: FAKK2.

Have you increased the memory allocated to these games?

Oops.

The problems are in OS X, OS 9.1 works fine.

The games work OK in OS X if I reinstall thge rage 128 card.

They just do not work with the PCI radeon and OS X.

thanks

Strange you mention those three games. It's not a coincidence that these games don't work if the other didn't work, since they are all based on the Quake 3 graphics engine.

They also all use OpenGL.

I have now tried Oni which also does not work in OS X with the Radeon, but does work in OS X with the Rage 128.

Hmmm....well, it's not a problem I've heard of before, I'm sorry to say...if you can, wait until the 10.1 update and see if that fixes your problems. Until then, I would say that OS 9 is your best bet for games anyways, because it's a well known fact that OS X is not the best for games so far..too many uncompleted technologies at work.

Well I have heard of this problem, else where in these forums, and there are supposedly no Divers for PCI Radeons in OSX, although what the difference is between the AGP Radeon Drivers (which are presently in OSX) I can not tell you, theres also "apparently" no drivers for PCI Rage 128 based cards in X either (allthough again they are present for the AGP varaints of the cards) this sounds a bit weird to me, and might not be true or entirely correct as it's all second hand info gathered from the MacNN G4 forum, and Macgamer's forums.
But I guess they'll be in "X" soon.

Apparently the issues have been resolved in 10.1, if this post is accurate.

Thanks for the info, I have a PCI Radeon that I was looking at adding as a second monitor card in my Quicksilver when I get it. This will help.
