I'm looking for a video card that will give me accelerated graphics on my PowerMac 8600 for playing Unreal Tournament. Any recommendations? What will work?

Currently, the 300 MHz machine works, but the graphics are unacceptably slow. I want this so my kids can use this machine for UT (and I can use my G4).

If you're not interested in having the card in anything other than the 8600, then I'd say that a Voodoo2 would probably be your best bet. They're cheap and they run anything based on the Unreal engine really well. There's no support or anything for them, of course, as 3dfx no longer exists, but you can pick one up for around twenty bucks and it'll keep the kids occupied.

The Voodoo cards are supposed to be the best for Unreal Tournamnet since it is optimized for Glide. But since I haven't tried one and I use a Radeon PCI, I'd recommend the Radeon PCI. It seems to work great and it has support from ATI (unlike the Voodoos which have no support). Just make sure you get the PCI version of the Radeon for your PM 8600.

I noticed a special note though, about the PM 8500 on ATI's FAQ for the Radeon. Don't know if it applies to the PM 8600.

i have an old imac with a voodoo2 card and it works well for ut (i ran at 800 by 600 and got about 30 fps average) just make sure you get a mac card. the radieon will be far far better, but then again it is alot more expensive.

you can get by with the voodoo2 in classic, but if your wanting something that will work in X you have to go radieon

There's someone in my head but its not me...
