Your system should be able to play those games, as OpenGL and the ATI drivers are installed upon installation of Mac OS 9.

As for optimizing, you might want to use Speed Disk which comes with Norton Utilities or TechTool Pro. I've not yet tried DiskWarrior, but I really don't have any favorites.

Get someone you know to go through your extensions/control panels folder and get rid of anything you don't need.
If you're not on a network or cable for example, get rid of all the ethernet extensions. Get rid of all the printer descriptions, and so on...
Leave the DVD's disabled unless you're gonna watch a movie.
Create a gaming extension set whereby all MS extensions are disabled, etc...

Yeah, Cipher has good advice. There are usually dozens of miscellaneous extensions and control panels that are useless for most Mac users. Like he said, printer drivers, ethernet extensions, file sharing, web sharing, airport drivers, etc. You can do a lot of streamlining on your system folder that will not only make your system stabler, but a little faster too (at least the OS part).

As far as running games, just make sure you have all the lastest drivers, sprockets, and version of OpenGL. . .you should be set to go after that.

Just to add something, since the topic of optimization was raised...

Both Disk Warrior and Norton Utilities come with an optimization app. On Disk Warrior, the app is called PlusOptimizer and is a separately-installed program. On Norton Utilities, the app is called Speed Disk.

Disk Warrior itself is designed to repair and optimize directories, and it does that job far better than Norton Utilities. On the other hand, Norton Utilities does things that Disk Warrior simply can't do, such as repair corrupted files.

The programs complement each other, which is why I have both of them installed on my hard drive.
