I haven't read of anyone else posting this so I thought I'd bring it up. Just got my Dual 800 and have been playing around with some of my classic games and I don't get any sounds or music. Is this because they rely on game sprockets? Anyone else seen this? I've tested this with Alpha Centauri and Heroes III Complete. This is going to make playing classic games intolerable in OSX. I think this will keep me in 9 for most of my gaming. Speed has not been a problem for the games in X so I'm slightly disappointed.

Greetings fellow Maclantian.

I haven't had the same difficulty with games that you have. I've actually found a couple that work relatively well (Baldur's Gate being the best example). D2 sucks, but other games play very well, with all sound and graphics. Heck, BG plays better in Classic than it does in OS 9.

Unfortunately, I think it's going to be hit or miss for the next few months in regards to X gaming...

Hey Q

Well I tried again last night with Alpha Centauri and I got sound... Go figure

No real consistency here... Guess it's a question of stopping and restarting classic until it works...

Is that with or without the 9.2.1 update?

It's a Quicksilver DP 800. It came with 9.2.1 installed. One thing I forgot to mention is that movies in the game play the sound but not the video. That's definitely got me confused Wonder if it has to do with the way it's calling quicktime...

Hrm. Something may be getting lost in the "translation" in the calls from Classic to Mac OS X. What surprises me is that BG was the buggiest POS I've run on my Mac, but it seems pretty solid in X.

I'll be running some games tomorrow. I'll have to see how it goes with AoE, Majesty, etc....

Good luck!

Well, I'm hoping 10.1 will clear up all these problems. And I did come across the sleep bug that everyone has mentioned. Where you walk away with a classic game running and come back, and your machine has gone to sleep. When you wake it up, the graphics for the classic game are all messed up. The only way I've found to solve this is to force quit classic. Not nice at all, especially if you haven't saved...

Guess that's why games with auto-save are great...
