My problem may caused by a number of things. I think it is a hardware problem but it does tend to crash the computer while running specific applications. I am frustrated.

I originally had an imac rev. B 266 with 160 megs ram Running OS 8.6. About a year and a half ago I had the imac gamewizard Voodoo2 installed, and at the same time I had it chipped to 300 mhz. The computer seemed as stable as it was before. About 3 months ago I had the iMaxpower G3 466 installed. And more recently than that I installed 256 megs ram.

My problem is this. Every few days the computer will just freeze. To shut down and restart I can use the button on the front. This crash is characteristic of that feature. I cant remember when this started but Im sure it was a couple months before the iMaxpower upgrade.

During normal operation it almost never crashes, during installations (especially 9.1 which I had to re-install 9.0.4 from the CD with CD extensions off to keep it from crashing) especially system 9.1 installation it was very crash prone. So bad I thought I might have had to trash it. Since 9.1 was finally installed its been better.

The one thing that has been a sure fire way to cause this characteristic freeze is Diablo2 on Battlenet. Sometimes I can play for 3 hours without a crash but sometimes only a few minutes. I cant pin down any one thing that is making it crash. I think that it may be during I/O functions. When I trash the Battlenet Cache it sometimes seems to go for longer. This is the aspect of the whole thing that I cant seem to remedy.

Netscape has gotten to be very stable since I started using ram for the cache. (With NavCom)

I upgraded my system to 9.0.4 then to 9.1 recently (with much difficulty) and the everyday crashes significantly decreased. But not the Diablo2 Battlenet crashes. Crashes dont happen as soon as before, but still usually within a half hour or hour it freezes.

Any ideas, or thoughts? Please let me know.

Mac Diablo II v1.04 is the buggiest piece of software I've ever owned. It's FFFAAARRR worse than v1.03...

I recently emailed a bunch of bug reports/complaints to Blizzard, and they responded with a letter that basically said, "you are experiencing these bugs because you use an AOL internet connection and AOL is a crappy problematic ISP."

The irony is that I use AT&T @Home (a cable modem service) as my internet connection. I only use AOl for email and chatting (since I have my @aol.com email address all over the place).

Blizzard refuses to acknowledge that they introduced all sorts of serious new bugs in v1.04. They responded to my original letter in two days; it's been two weeks since I sent my reply stating that I didn't use AOL as my internet connection. If they replied again, they would have to admit to having made public an extraordinarily buggy product. And Blizzard wouldn't want to have to do THAT, now would they?

I've never had D2 v. 104 give me a problem. Nothing at all. It's a very smooth and stable piece of software in my opinion. You might want to check your extensions or something. . .
