Hey guys, Ive decided its time to buy a new game this week.
Currently I have an indigo ibook with 192mb ram and I own:
-Deus Ex
-Q3 Arena
-Civilisation - Call to Power
- The Sims
Ive been looking at a couple of games - Rune, Diablo II and Starcraft Battlechest.
In fact Ive played the demos of all three and decided I like all of them. SO which do you recommend I get? Or are there other games I should be looking at? Do many people still blay starcraft on Bnet? Is bnet still really unstable for diablo II? Does rune run well?
Thanks

You can't call yourself a mac person unless you try out UT :-)
It's a very cool game and IMNSHO, much better than Q3A... The gameplay is just so much cooler.

Oh, and Diablo ][ is an OK game. I wouldn't recommend buying it now, though. Not enough of a player culture; it's full of people just trying to get experience (unlike ClanLord, my favorite game for two years :-).
The Diablo servers are also lagged to hell (no pun intended).

Marathon Resurrection is working on a UT mod, and essentially bringing Marathon into the 21st century. The screen caps look SWEET - I'm considering buying UT just to play that one mod.

Starcraft is a great buy mainly because it is sooooo cheap. I got both Starcraft and Broodwar for under $25. If you can go to a wholesaler (eg Costco), then you can get the battlechest set that includes strategy guides for the same price. . .but, seriously, who uses strat guides? Anyway, Starcraft and Broodwar are phenomenal games. It never ceases to amaze me how well balanced the game is.
UT is the best game out there right now. However, it is a hardware hog, so I don't know how well it will run on your indigo. I'd imagine it would do pretty well, but you will basically have to get an mouse. You can't do FPS w/ a tackpad.
FAKK2 is another great game. It's short, but a very cool game. I would definitely recommend buying this game if you find it for under $35.

Oops, just noticed you're Down Under. Cipher is always bitchin' about how you can't get Starcraft down there for cheaper. I still think it's worth paying full price. . .

I have Diablo2 and Starcraft on my Rev A iBook...
Starcraft. It's better, has more support, has less kinks, and is generally more fun.
I ask you what's better.
A) Beatinng a guy in a one-on-one duel with a Paladin
or...
B) Killing everyone in his camp with about a 200 Zergling strong early rush.
I love the smell of Terrans in the morning.

Starcraft and Quake III Arena/Team Arena for me. I do love the complexity of Starcraft and every game is just so different. While Quake III is just a blowem to pieces and think that everyone on the other team works at Micro$oft type game. I have others but these are the most played.

Well, thanks for all your advice guys.
I went with the Starcraft Battlechest. I picked it up for $80.95 Aus which is like about $45 US I spose.
I am very happy with it. It plays so well and is just so detailed - I think it will keep me busy for a few months at least.
My online name is Magik~Man - if anyone wants to play me, id really like to meet some mac users on bnet. Email me at jiveboy@telstra.com if you are interested .
Long live the terrans! (yes I know Im a geek!)

Wait, no I mean, WAIT. Oni is coming jan. 29. It looks to be a clash where Mortal Kombat meets Quake in 3rd person with a plot line thicker than most RPGs. This game rocks! e-mail me what you think of the demo, you can find it at bungie.com

Descent 3!
There is nothing to compare with it. Use a mouse just like any FPS (I finally realized joystick is harder to aim) and you will find the best online multiplayer ever created.

Starcraft is a piece of crap. It'll lag over a gigabit lan. Dibalo II is a lot more fun, imho, but the networking is just as bad.
If you want a good networked strategy game, get Total Anihilation. It puts Starcraft to shame in graphics, game play, and networking.
The ony downside is that TA is not compatible with the PC version for whatever reason. Even though they both do TCP/IP. Their excuse is that the Macs don't support DirectPlay by Microsoft.
It's TCP/IP! Who cares if you play via DirectPlay or not. Some companies have the lamest excuses to not do something. Sheesh.

I tried the TA demo and it SUCKED. I couldn't believe how bad it was. I've been told that I should try out the whole game, but there is no way I'm going to risk my money on a game when its demo wasn't worth the electrons used to run it.
And if you're getting lag on Starcraft, then you have your comp or connection is all whacked. I play on a standard 10/100 LAN, and it rarely if ever noticeably lags (even on BNet!). Besides, ANY game will have some lag no matter how well the programming is. It's just impossible to get the computers to do the exact same thing at the exact same time when the game is dependent on multiple player input and actions. Anyway, it's not like Starcraft is a game that needs an ultra-fast/ low lag connection.

Well, Ive been playing starcraft for 2 weeks now and I love it. Its great in bothe the single player mode and bnet.
Ive completed the first 30 missions in single player, but am struggling a little with the brood war missions. But thats ok, I like a challenge.
As for the TA comment/suggestion. I played TA on pc when it first came out. I didnt liek ti then and dont like it now. It doesnt have any atmosphere or story line, and I just couldnt get into it. Starcraft is far better in my opinion; It is not only a much better game but has a huge following so you can get a game of it online day or night, plus the campaign/scenario editor is magnificient.
I cant wait for Warcraft III (although I will have to) - it will probably be even better.

OK, Starcraft is better than Total Annihilation,
if you're playing it in single player, but if you
want the best RTS multiplayer game then
Total Annihilation is the way to go, it absolutely
ROCKS!

The only game that stands a chance of topping Starcraft (for that type of game) would be Warcraft III...lets just hope playing WCIII on bnet won't produce as much lag as Diablo II does.

You could try Driver, a good driving game,
or Baldur's Gate if you want to spend many many hour on a game.
UT is going to be slow on your machine, but if Q3A played OK...
