Hello,

Up until recently, I have been playing Quake 3 on my iMac without a hitch. Now, everytime I play the game it is really jumpy, it's like taking a brief pause everytime you took a couple of steps. I realize I don't have the best gaming machine, but with my graphics cranked way down, I could actually play a decent game with a decent FPS rate. I upgraded to OS 9.1 awhile back and the problems with Quake started then, so I did a clean reinstall of OS 9, and then I went back up to 9.0.4. I also completely reinstalled Quake and the latest Point Release, 1.27g. I also reinstalled OpenGL 1.2.1 and Quickdraw 1.6 The problem is still there. Does anyone have a suggestion? Please help me get back in the game.

David

It's not your mac - its 1.27g. It still has debug code in it. Revert to 1.17 if it's annoying (which it is).

I have a cube/radeon, and it's jumpy even at 60 fps. Yep, the jumpiness is NOT related to the vid card.

Sting,

Thank you very much for your reply to my problem. I reverted back to 1.17 and everything works perfectly! The only problem now is getting all my Windows and Linux friends to do the same or I won't be able to play with them. They have to do this right?

Yeah, they should too I guess, though I'd try it without changing anything first - you might get lucky.

If you're playing any mods, you'll notice they work for 1.17 OR 1.27, but not both.

All this should change with 1.27h, which I'd recommend you go to as soon as it's released. Apparently they're removing the debug code - definitely worth the d/l. This is why Team Area is so f'n jerky too.

BTW - I don't believe the game uses quickdraw - opengl handles the 3d stuff.

Quake3world.com has some excellent how-to's, maps (v. cool, check it out) and helpful forums. Go there, post here, or email me if you have any other questions!

Any idea if / when Team Arena is loosing the debug code? The map looks great but the jerkiness sucks. Looks like it's running at 10-15fps slower than Q3 v1.17 at the same settings. thanx.....joe

Does anyone know when 1.27h will be released? I heard rumors that it was already out. Is this true? If so, where can I download it?

Thanks

A guess, to be sure, but I can't imagine TA will be too far behind Q3A with the updated code.

The bottleneck now is the Metrowerks compiler, which is having trouble with the Altivec code. Quake3World forums have betten this topic to death.
