I was ready to buy Rune but saw it required a PCI Power Mac to run. It said that 2nd Generation machines would run it but will a new 2000 imac or ibook run Rune. Why would the slot even matter if you meet the other requirements.

All modern Macs are PCI. This includes all the iMacs, though from what I understand the original iBook was not.

I have run Rune on my iMac DV 400 with 192mb of RAM and I can tell you that Ca$h's estimation is more or less correct. It runs fluidly, though not spectaularly.

If you want the "Wowzers! That looks photo-realistic!" graphics, you'll be disappointed. Of course, if you want a "serious" gaming machine you can either buy a G4 tower with that NVidia card or slap together a PC.

Question-on which graphics engine is Rune based?

Rune is based on an advanced version of the Unreal Tournament engine. It handles large, open spaces well and the textures are a little bit better but still runs on RAVE unless you have a Voodoo card.

I have a G4 dual 500 with 196 ram and I still need an extra 75 mb of virtual memory to run it but once that is on it runs perfectly. I need to invest in more memory, and show should you if you intend on playing it. I think the minimum it needs is 190 Mb. it would me worth it, its a good game
