I have two questions. First, does anyone else have a problem with it unexpectedly quitting? I have two iMacs and it crashes all the time. Second, does anyone know how to set up the game on a network? I don't want to have to use the internet for it. Thanx.

Multiplayer --> Create
It'll create a TCP/IP game playable over a LAN, though only with other Macs.
It's a pity that Windows compatibility was given no priority

Be happy.

If I remember correctly it uses your computers IP address. You can also use the name of the host computer, nice touch for those of us who don't want to remember the IP but rather the hosts name.

I am experiencing the same problem ("The application Age of Empires II has unexpectedly quit"). I've already upgraded to 1.0.3 with no effect. I've installed AoE II Gold Edition under the root account and when starting it as normal user it crashes when loading the scenario (intro runs fine and menu loads normal). I can play however if I log in as root and start the game. Any suggestion why this happens?

Well it sounds like a permissions problem:-), well that's what I call anything that works as root but not as a user. Apple never really intended that you install any (OSX GUI type) software while installed as root, (UNIX, fink, other things excepted) so I'm not surprised it doesn't work. I would remove it from the system, and then install it while logged in as a normal admnistrative user.
