Got a G4/400 AGP (10/100) and an iMac SE Graphite (the 400 MHz version). I'm getting rif of the G4 tomorrow, but I wanted to play a few games of Myth or UT first.

They're linked with a crossover cable, and I've already trasferred my personal files and such over (from the looks of it, I think I'm pulling close to 100 Mbit speeds) via file sharing.

However, from a cursory look at UT, whenever I try and create a LAN game it connects to the internet, and the iMac (which isn't connected) won't see it in the LAN Multilayer panel.

Anyone know a really easy way to just get a game on with two linked computers???? I don't really want to fool too much with it, since it's only for tonite........any knowledgable people here? I know shiet-all about networks, since I've only ever had my own computer..........

Well? Anyone know how, or is it a lost cause?

Try this and tell me if it works. Open the TCP/IP panel. Select Ethernet and "Using DHCP Server".Launch a game. While it is launched, go back to the TCP/IP. There should be a phantom IP address. Use this address to connect the two computers together now that you have an IP address. If this doesnt work, I might have another way.

Yeah, that worked.....I had to set the iMac's TCP/IP as well, and then connected to the G4's IP from the game.

Had some awesome games.......

Thanks dude.

You're getting rid of the G4? WTF? Why? And you're keeping the iMac? Explain your logic to me. . .I just don't see how I would ever get rid of a G4 for an iMac. . .

Oh yeah, just for future reference: if you have any more questions about mac UT that need to be answered quickly, go to OSX's site. www.planetunreal.com/osx

I actually referenced their site to set up a network to run UT. Very handy.

Thanks all. We had some rockin' games.

In case you never noticed, there are new G4's out. I, incidently, found a new buyer who was happy to take the machine off my hands for $200 Cdn. less than what the Gigabit models are going for now.

I was happy to let him take it.

I hate to say it dude, but that G4 400 was the best G4 made... price/performance that is...
The new machines just aren't the same...
The Mystic models are good, but not as good as Sawtooth... and the new ones are just crap...

Definitely, Cipher.....you mean the Gigabit, tho. I had the first Sawtooth revision, with the 10 gig (7200 RPM).

The earlier ones were 350 for the same price, and the ones now offer 66 more megahertz (what, 1/7th more power?), little hard drive upgrade, the new motherboard, and a hal-years' worth development - for an extra hundred bucks. Damn. Blame the Cube, man.....

HOWEVER......I'm think dual 667's will pretty much destroy both, hmmmmmm......?????
