i can't find anything that says it's out yet. the only place i can see to order it is at feral software's site, where you can PRE-order. they give an anticipated release date of the 8th (yesterday). graphic simulations' site (graphsim.com) says it's "coming soon." are you guys sure it's out?

Yeah, I ordered a copy from feral weeks ago, but so far there has been no word. I don't think online orders are being filled yet.

Mac Gamer posted some info about this today. The way it reads, it sounds like Black and White is only on sale at the show, for now. It still needs to pass another level of QA before it goes on sale everywhere.

That was the good news. The part the got me upset was that it sounded like it would ship without multiplayer mode and be "patched" later to support it. I personally find that to be the most awful trend in game design, releasing half-finished products. I should have ordered Civ III instead!

I can't wait to get my copy. I want to slap around my "creature" because I think it's hilarious. I like playing God.

Yeah, when I look back at my response, I kinda find it funny in that way. But, I am the oldest out of five children, so I have learned all my life to take care of those younger than me.

According to MacGamer, B&W will be through the final QA within the next 10 days - but the multiplayer will be out by March. To be honest, I'm glad they're doing it this way.

The multiplayer aspect was never a big point for this game on the PC, and if shipping a patch for it gets it in our hands sooner rather than later, why not? I've been enjoying Giants since I got it, and wouldn't have wanted that to be held up until they shipped its (beta) multiplayer patch this week.

And if you think the number of patches that come out for Mac games is bad, you should see what it's like over on the PC - releasing patches is a way of life...

I think it has both positive and negative sides to ship a game without multiplayer. Say they would not have done that, you would have had to wait until march to get the game. But taking this you get it NOW! That's cool. It is obviously uncool to be not able to comepete with my pc friends. But since nobody of them plays online usually it is not too bad anyway...

all in all, a good decision to me, in this case.
However, they should not do this to a multiplayer rpg or something )

I also think that since Black and White has been out for so long on the PC, they need to release it for Mac ASAP. The longer it takes then to finish it, the fewer sales they will have. People will instead play it on PCs at their friend's houses and so on.

They did the right thing in deciding to give us the game now, and multiplayer later.

Well, the port of B & W is pretty well done. It runs flawlessly on my iBook. However, the OS X port has some problems, which are rather directed to OS X than to the port.

Anyway, go order now, this is the coolest thing you have ever played! Go, GO!

Black and White delayed again, according to the news on Mac Gamer this morning. I definitely should have gone with Civ III.

How is this true if "niceguy" already has it running nicely on his iBook?

A small number were sold at the expo, then it went to Lionhead for a final QA stage before going on sale to the general public.

The box states "Mac OS 8.6+, 333MH, 128MB RAM, 750MB HD, x4CD, 8MB VRAM, OpenGL 1.2" are minimum. Recommended are: "500MHz, OS 9.1, 256MB free RAM, 1GB HD, hardware accelerated 3D graphics card with 32MB VRAM."

Got the game at MacWorld SF. Hope this helps.

I heard that B & W will only run decent on a G4. Can anyone confirm this?

(Does that mean G3 users are left out in the cold? )

doubtful, virtually all games and common programs run identically on G4's and G3's. BUT, G3 systems likely have lesser Graphic cards which can make a big difference.

B&W doesn't contain any G4-specific code, so it will run fine on a G3: however as juanvaldes points out, the graphics card does make a big difference.

The game will use as much VRAM as it can, so more is definitely better.
