Hey all
I was wanting to know if anyone has had any experience with baldurs gate 2 on an ibook (mine is 500/dvd/384). This is better than the specs given on the game, but the PC version said a 233, but it really needed 500+. I've heard it runs pretty well in 9 and shite in X. I really want the game, but I'm not gonna spend the cash if the game won't run properly.
thanks

I run BGII on my iBook 500mhz/320mbRAM in OS X, and it's kind of sluggish. I have set all of the video and monitor options so that they barely go over the minimum or just at the minimum, and it's still slow. Don't get me wrong, it's still a kick @## game, but I'd love for the frame rate and scrolling to actually be "real time".
I haven't, however, tried it in OS 9, so I can't tell you if it's any better there.

Wow...nigeljedi you are one crazy mo-fo....I don't even bother with BG2 w/a dual G4...just too slow. (X, 9, classic)

Sorry man, I would say save your money until you hear us talking about a patch that fixes the numerous problems with the game...

It'll be doable in 9. Sh!t in X though.

Unless you MUST have 30 FPS all the time, you won't have a problem (note that most combat is done while paused anyway).
Be happy.

Dude! I play BGII on a....revA imac 233/192 in os9 Am I crazy? No, It runs great...ok so things slow down a bit when there are big fights, but lets face it, this game kicks ass. So if I can say that and be playing it on my ancient Bondi, then it should be great for you too

I bought the games 'cause it is an OSX title; but it is pretty much unplayable under X. I'm very disappointed. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who plans on using it under OSX.

Ahh well, I'm off to boot back into OS9. Sigh.

I am wanting to get this game for my ibook, but have also been a little concerned about the performance.

From what I read, its acceptable in 9 and pretty crap in x?

I have an indigo ibook, 320mb ram (366mhz cpu) but it has exactly the same video card as the new ibook. Oh well I guess ill buy it and pray,....
MacBook Alu, 13", 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 256MB video
G5 Imac, 17", 1.9Ghz, 1.5GB RAM, 128MB video, built in isight, airport and bluetooth
Indigo iBook, 366mhz; 320MB RAM; CD; FW; Airport

It works just great in 9. I've had it crash when going from full screen to windowed mode and back, but other than that it's pretty stable. The function keys don't work on my iBook in the game (ie, you can't use them to select stuff from a player's menu bar -- the button presses build up and all happen after you exit the game). I wish there was a way to switch to other applications (email, web browser) from within the fullscreen mode. It's a very fun game other than that.

I play it on the plane with my 500mhz ibook...i'd recommend at least 256(if not 384)mb of ram....and make sure you allocate a healthy chunk of that but not starve your system, either. Ran great on OS 9.1
