I have been searching forever here, there, and everywhere for a solution to this.....

I have a B&W tower, 512 RAM, 9.2.2, QT 5 (registered, not that it matters) and Heavy metal FAKK2...
...problem is i never get beyond the orange screen at startup and it quits with a plain jane type 3 error, not the quake error.

i went through all of the troubleshooting...upped the mem allocation, left the allocation the same, reinstalled, didnt move or rename the folder from where it was installed, installed it on 3 different drives, moved it and renamed it, applied the patch, removed the patch, base extensions, all extensions....I even wrote to tech support and they sent me a stock troubleshooting email that told me to check if my mouse was plugged in(it is as far as i can tell)!!

is it QT 5? a plot against me? bad karma?

i challenge anybody to help me....

Can you tell me if you have similar problems with any other Quake 3 - engined games?

I have no problem with quake 3 what-so-ever, in fact i did just open it and realized that it has the same orangy-yellw startup screen right before the id logo....this is where fakk bombs and drops me at the desktop with that d4mn type 3.
i do have the rage 128 OEM card, but oni, unreal, D2:LOD all work flawlessly ......

correct me if im am wrong but isnt type 3 a memory error?

still no idea here..and none on the tech support forums or fan pages....i want to at least give the game a try...BUT IT WONT LET ME!

I dunno man, I didn't have any problems running the game myself, and I've never had that problem with the Quake 3 engine...and I don't know what error codes mean either If you'd had a problem with other Q3-engined games I would have had a better idea - but here, I just don't know. All I can offer is that maybe a system reinstall might help? I know that's a very Windows-y solution, but it's all I can come up with right now.

Best of luck in solving your problem.

The yellow screen is completely normal especially on slow machines like your G3.

Yeah the yellow screen is normal, but i get unceremoniously dumped out on the desktop with a REGULAR type 3 error......

to tell you the truth though i dont know if i really care anymore since i started "alice". alice runs fine on my machine...and i think that it rocks way more than FAKK.....

by the way does alice remind anybody of bugdom? seems eerily like it (the whole game is a bit eerie), but the giants and the scenery and the ants and all.......is it the same engine?

Actually, Alice uses the Quake III engine, which can explain how both Q3 and Alice can run fine on your computer. As far as FAKK goes, I really don't know what to say but that you mayhave a faulty copy and/or there are some extensions screwing with the program. I would try deleting everything (preferences and all) and trying again. Hope that helps.

I found FAKK to be much more memory hungry and slow over Quake and Alice, but never to my knowledge ever refused to start up. I do however run it on and iMac 350 with 512Mb RAM, so memory is never really a problem.

I would check for small smudges or fingerprints etc. on your FAKK CD and see whether or not it could just be a corrupt disc issue.

Try putting the Fakk folder on the desktop and running it from there.

First off try flushing your PRAM. Command+Option+P+R @ bootup. 3-4 chimes. This is customary PM (preventive maintaince) on a Mac. Then try rebulding your desktop. Hold Command+Option just before all you extensions have loaded.

Now try running the game. Any difference? None? Move on:

Now try reintalling the game after you've made sure that it is clean on the bottom.

Now try running the game. Any difference? None? Move on:

Well try reintalling the OS using your mac os 9 disk. Use the 1 that says Software reintall. This will leave all your preferences and 3rd party extensions and control panels untouched. After you lauch the installer it will ask you if you are reinstalling or adding/removing software. Tell it reinstall.

Now try running the game. Any difference? None? Move on:

Try downloading the latest Open GL drivers. Here is the address:
Apple.com/support/

Now try running the game. Any difference? None? Move on:

Use your software install disk to install a clean system folder. Use the options button in the last dialoge box of the installer.

Now try running the game. Any difference? None? Move on:

Last Step:

Get a new Dual 800 G4 Towers with a Geforce3 card for crying outloud!

Hope this helps. I know that most of guys would have already known.
This signiture is currently under contruction!
