I'm trying to get hold of a working copy of the Myth 3 demo - I quite fancy the game but as my iMac is on the limit of the recommended spec (iMac DV 400) I'd like to try the game out before parting with hard earned!
I thought Alice would be too much for it, but after trying the demo, I've found to run quite well so I'm hoping that will be the case with Myth3.
I've already written off Giants and RTCW - and am pretty sure HALO and Unreal2 when (if) they finally appear are going to be a no-no.
Anybody with a link to a working demo - I've tried MacGamefiles (corrupt Tag file!?) and MythMaps (Unknown Stuffit format) - and as that's nearly 200Mb of pointless data so far, I'd like to be sure before starting another download!
Cheers
Jeff

I don't think it will run for ya man. Sorry. Runs great on my tower, but it's a tower not an iMac. BUT! you are lucky enough to have a great supply of mac users at your disposal here.
so what are the specs of your DV and I will test it out on Cheerios machine. It's also a lowly iMac (gaming wise) and she didn't think it would run so we never tried...
What level of usefulness do you want/expect? Playable? Smooth? Flying?

iMac DV 400 Mhz G3 512 Mb Ram 40 Gb Hard Drive Rage 128 Card.
I'm not what you'd call a hard-core gamer, (any discussion of frame rates leaves me cold!) - as Myth is a strategy game I'm not that botherd with the eye candy if the gameplay is good.
As to what I expect - your 'playable' is undoubtedly different to mine - anything better than BG2 under OS X would be nice!
Thanks for the reply!
Jeff
Would still like to try the demo though, any links to working download appreciated!

I have Myth III. It's the wolf age title. I can't get it to run. I have a G4 500mHz, its the AGP Graphics model with, I believe, an ATI Rage128. I am running 9.04 and the game required me to upgrade Open GL to 1.2. I did so using the installer included with the CD. Now I can't even boot with the new ATI drivers it installed on my computer! I have to disable them to get my machine to boot. Of course the game won't run without them.
I installed Mac OS 9.2.2 on a second partition. My machine won't boot at all. It hangs at the ATI drivers. In 9.2.2 if I disable the ATI drivers, it will boot. This was a fresh install with no other extensions. It seems I can't upgrade beyond 9.04. I've tried implanting 9.04 ATI drivers onto the new Open GL set but this too causes a hang. Is there anyway I can patch up my driver situation or is there any firmware update to the ATI card in my machine? It seems to not like any updated graphics drivers above 9.04. I can try a complete wipe and reinstall, but that's my last resort.
Can anyone offer some ideas?

There were bad versions of the demo floating around. The first *two* I tried to dload would give an error upon unstuffing, but the installer would work. This left me with a demo that would only play the training portion. The rest of the game would freze before loading.
Once I finally downloaded a version that unstuffed without error, the demo has run fine. (well, it can crash, but it's a demo..)
If you think you have a bad download, GK lists some alternate download locations in this thread:

One of them worked for me.

cool, I will test it out tomorrow on Cheerios iMac, aside from a larger HD I am fairly certain that you have the same imac.
Now, as to better then BG2, I feel fairly certain that it will be better then that, and since I bought it (D'oh! :o) I know what you mean

I don't have much faith in it. I had the problems spoke of above. Sounds like a game that I would rather wait until it's out and I see a couple of patches too.
As for good beta-ware, Wolfenstein works flawlessly. Now that's a great game and on my list go buy.
