...System Shock 2. For PC.

I was astonished at
A) How similar it is to Marathon.
B) How much better it is at story, etc.

The only possible complaint is with the RPGish elements (inventory management, character development) but I see that as a pro. Some will see it as a con.

Wow, I wish they made a Mac version of this....

What are you talking about? Define "Marathon game." Marathon 2: Durandal was really, really good. Infinity wasn't as good but had a philosophical aspect that very few video games have. I'm playing Rubicon now. It's pretty good so far.

I've never played System Shock 2, but I've heard it's really good.

If you ever do play System Shock 2, you'll know exactly what I mean.

* A battle with creepy, mysterious, unknown aliens over Tau Ceti
* A pair of A.I.'s doing battle, with the player the pawn of the egomaniacal insane one.

In some ways it seems like they're ripping Marathon off, almost.

It's so much better, mostly because it's so recent. You really feel like you're on the starship Vaun Braun.

The only reason I've posted this here, is that EVERY Marathon addict MUST play this game. I swear, it's the Marathon 4 we'll never have...

I loved Marathon 1 & 2 and I must agree with Apotheos: System Shock 2 is a great game. Too bad it's not for Mac...
