I've been playing this game but have been frustrated because of the slowness of the motions in it. Characters move very, very slowly and jerkily so it takes forever for them to get into their proper position. I wrote to Aspyr and asked them about this problem and was told to upgrade to OS 9.1. So I ordered the upgrade CD and installed it, but unfortunately this didn't help. I'm playing on my iMac with 256 mg's of RAM. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you!

Try turning off VM.
Add more RAm (very cheap nowadays, www.ramseeker.com)
Use only minimal number of system extensions.

Hope this helps.

GK -- Thank you very much for the quick response! I'll try turning off virtual memory, which I just found out today is automatically on with the 9.1 upgrade. Thanks again.

AFAIK, VM on is the default when installing Mac OS. It has been like that will all of the versions I've installed (7.5.1->OS X).

And which iMac do you have? Do you have one of the original series with the Rage Pro (not including the Rev A iMac)? If you have the version with the Rage Pro, that could be your whole problem right there. If you have one of the slot loading models, then I'm not sure what could be wrong.

A2daj --

I have a slot-loading iMac. I checked the virtual memory, and it was off. I am still experiencing slowness. I just got through the Mysts 'O Time, and that was a grueling experience because there were about four seconds between each movement Guybrush made through the swamp. It took me forever to get through that area, with my finger resting on whatever arrow I was supposed to be pressing. This is so strange, because I would think that a new game would move much more smoothly. I've really enjoyed previous Monkey Island games, so I will stick with this one because it's so clever. Too bad I'm experiencing this "slo-mo, jerky movement" problem. I've read other sites regarding players' impressions of this game, but haven't read of anyone else having similar problems. Thank you for your feedback.

hi,
I'm on a iMac333Mhz, Rage Pro and 192Ram (OS 9.1)and the game works great..I don't think the ram is the Problem here..Maybe the OpenGL? Maybe try a full install of the game..
Have Fun

Have you tried a clean install of you system? If you do a clean install, your old System Folder will be renamed and saved in case you want to go back it it.
If you don't want to do a clean install, you can try reinstalling OpenGL 1.2.1. Or try installing the latest Radeon drivers (1.1.1). They include drivers for ATI II, Pros, 128s, 128 Pros, and Radeons along with a new OpenGL component or two.

Hi, A2daj --

How do I get to install Radeon driver 1.1.1? Is this a download that's available on the web somewhere? Thank you!

Hi again A2daj! Just wanted to let you know that I found the Radeon driver 1.1.1 and downloaded it, tried my game again, and things worked beautifully! What a difference! Thank you so much for this wonderful tip!

Hi there,

If the game plays fine most of the time, but slows down in certain places, try giving EFMI more memory (that is, select it in the finder, get Info, and change the Preferred Memory size to something larger...I'd add 20 or 30 MB if you are experiencing problems).

Virtual Memory isn't really a problem for EFMI, since most of the active assets only take up between 20-30MB...so other than the occasional pause between scene (as stuff is paged from disk to RAM), it shouldn't cause any real problems.

bye

Hi, Jesse --

Thank you so much for your suggestion of increasing the amount of memory for EFMI. I had already done that because of the same suggestion from another gamer. But that Radeon download really did the trick. Too bad I didn't do this until near the end of the game! I may have to play it again just to enjoy the way it's supposed to play. Thank you again.
