hi,
every time I use "open location" or " find internet games" my computer crashes. I have version 436.
I work with a iMac 333Mhz 192Ram and surf with a cable modem.
Some help please...
thanks

do you get a memory error, or does it just freeze? 192 mb is barly enought to run UT, try turning on your virtual memory and increase UT memory requirments

try pulling your unrealtournament.ini file out of the folder, then start up UT again (make sure your cache folder's empty, or this'll do it for you). i've had a bad ini file crash out UT, though not at that point. sounds similar, though.

Thanks for the reply but I've seen that when I use " find LAN games " first and then " open location " it works...(most of the time)
it's a 50 et...
and it's the same without the .ini file
Thanks for the help though

I have a problem something like that. When I try to play UT, I can get as far as clicking one thing (One menu, one button, once) and then it freezes. I’ve tried everything but no luck. Everything worked fine before.

This freeze may actually be your system slowing to a crawl while the master servers are polled/queried for all of the online servers. It may take some time, but if you are patient (sometimes it can even take up to 3 minutes on a cable modem, 400mhz G3, Voodoo3, 512MB RAM), you should regain your control. I hate it when this happens, but once the server list is pretty filled out, you regain control and the computer speeds up again.

It's sort of like getting a full group list using a news reader app, but much more taxing on the system for some reason.

Best of luck.

Yeah but UT really stops...sometimes when it works it's like you said..it slows down and after a couple of min. it's fine again..and that's the only time i can use "open location" but most of the time UT stops and doesn't even fill the list...(it keeps "quering" the server).

Tantilator is right... queing servers brings your system to a crawl. This is quite normal so there's nothing to worry about. You just have to be patient and sit there waiting for it to finish. Although sometimes it does get stuck queing servers but hitting F5 usally fixes this. What I like to do is put all of my favorite servers in the Favorites Tab. That way I don't have to wait so long to start fragging.

Slick shoes?!! Are you crazy?!!

it doesn't continue on a crawl paste but it actually get's stuck...
there isn't a chance at opening "open location" without doing the "find LAN games-procedure" if I try to click open location first it stops...I've waited for 30 min....nothing...not even F5 works..nothing..
Thanks for the reply's.

Try this:
To see if your system really is stuck, run UT in window mode. After the game starts up, on the main title screen, hit command-F. This will stick UT in it's own window and make the rest of the sytem accessable. Now hit FinD Internet Games or whatever makes it hang. If it really is freezing, you won't be able to ckick on the desktop, access the Finder or anything else. If not, you should be able to tell if the system is still running by looking at your clock and net-traffic icon.
Hope this helps.
jaz.

Make sure you FIRST connect to the internet and then start UT, this solved a lot of trouble for me.

Maybe the Telenet proxy server that's causing the trouble?

Have you tried connecting via Gameranger to UT as a workaround. Ie. Bring up gameranger, in gameranger go into the UT servers and selecting one from there, which should start up UT.

I hate to second guess you, but have you tried accessing the net with just an internet browser. Ie. your connection is working. With MacOS 9.x, it does not notify you if your cable internet connection is down.

My connection works fine...I have no problems connecting with IE...
and normally I use GR to connect to UT servers but there are some servers I would like to use that aren't on GR.
I don't really think it's a modem problem but some kind of UT prob..
It crashes only when I use 'open location' before I get the list from 'find internet games-or-find LAN games'
Thanks for the reply.
