Sorry I am sure this has been asked before but I can't find it....

You get frames per second as soon as you start playing. If you weren't getting any FPS, then the screen won't update.

If you want to see how many FPS you're getting then type /cg_drawFPS 1 in the console. Hit ~ to get the console.
