Deimos Rising 1.0.1 adds native support for game controllers under both Mac OS 8/9 and Mac OS X, enables the cheat codes, and fixes a few minor bugs. This is a free update to registered users.

Deimos Rising is a fast-action, smooth-scrolling, heart-stopping, arcade-style sequel to Mars Rising that's sure to hyphenate your social life.

You can grab the new version of Deimos Rising here:

So, moki, how easy is it to implement Apple's HID into games? I'm glad to see devs using HID since Apple doesn't seem to have any plans to bring InputSprockets back.

HID is no fun -- but doable. The problem is you have to roll pretty much everything yourself, even with the sample code Apple provides.

Uh, how do you upgrade? I d/led it from the Ambrosia Servers and I got the whole flippin' game w/ data (34 MB). I'm scared to just replace my 1.0.0 because when I tried the 1.0.1 it didn't give me access to the levels I had beaten. . .am I missing something, or are things okay even after I replace the files? Also, I do have a registered version. I'm wondering if it's going to mess up my registration. . .

I can't find any documentation on stuff like the newly supported cheat codes either.

If you copy the preferences file from your old Deimos Rising folder (in Data:Local ref to the same place in your new Deimos Rising folder, you should be all set.

I did this, and it still says "unregistered version". I have a new iBook that came with a registered version of the game. Do I have to do something different to register the update?

Moki, do you think the difficulty in writing games to OS X is a temporary problem, or does Apple not plan to improve on this at all? Everyone wants OS X to be a great gaming platform. Is there anything you can tell us (non-NDA) about future trends in this area?

I'm still worried of losing my registration. Moki, can you confirm that I will not lose my registration upon upgrade?

We're planning a special update for people who have the bundle version -- stay tuned.
