I think I have seen this discussed before, but I did a search and couldn't find anything.

I have recently deleted OS9 off my iBook (500 DVD, 384) because the 10 gigs was getting way too cramped. I own D2 and Starcraft (and the respective expansions) and I really want to get back into playing them.

The install process on the mac seems much simpler on the mac, and I was wondering if it is possible to just drag the cd contents into a folder and then apply the OSX patches. Anyone tried this or know of a better way to do it? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
The Duke

I hope so, I expect it to be. This is going to be their first release since OS X.1 came out so I expect it to.

With Starcraft and Diablo II, a CD Key is required upon installation. For Diablo II, the CD Key you enter is entered in the Diablo II Sound file somehow. So you HAVE to have classic available to install. Classic can be as small as 100-300MB (you only need the System Folder and a bare minimum extensions control panel load) so I always have Classic installed.
One option would be to install the game on someone else's Mac running Classic and then move the files to your Mac. Make sure you delete the copy on the other person's computer

I copied the patched verion of Starcraft to my ibook that did not have classic installed and it was buggy as hell! Cinema was useless, and half the time the game 'unexpectadely quit'. I chickened out trying with Diablo II because I figured it was much more system hungry than starcraft!

Based on my one test, I don't see how patched blizzard games are gonna work without classic in 10.2. Hopefully Apple is taking into account some patches that still need certain classic requirements.

I'm hoping someone has more information...

Hmmm.. I just tried it out after I posted and Starcraft installed just fine. Carbon patch worked just fine as well. Broodwars to be exact. Make sure you have the correct Carbon version. There's a separate download for Starcraft and Brood Wars.
I actually got the idea from someone else who did the same thing. He installed the game on someone elses computer and copied the game over.

Now for Diablo II, I have an install saved on a FireWire drive so when I need to reinstall, it's a simple drag and drop.
