A while back Apple had a mac preview of Halo on their quictime game trailer section. What happened to that? Did they stop developing or something?

If they still are developing, does anyone know if the graphics are going to be as good as the XBox version, and whether they will keep the same story line?

MS bought Bungie and made them develope Halo for XBox instead of giving it to us September 2001

I'll never forgive MS for this

But we'll get it quite soon.

Bungie is very much committed to getting it out for Mac and PC, very likely with some sweet multiplayer additions, that will in turn be sold to Xbox users in some way.

Dunno if the slow sales of the box lengthens the wait, but it'll come.

And it'll be sweet in 1600 x 1200

Halo for Mac/PC will be out shortly after Duke Nukem Forever goes gold.

No, it's not comming out. A new interview was released, and they said something like "Yeah, we're working on it, but where the work is going we're not sure. We'll see when we get there."

That's a huge bright sign that says WE'RE STALLING UNTIL PEOPLE FORGET

Have you played Halo on the XBOX?

Man I can't wait to play that game *with a keyboard* cause I get fragged everytime with the xbox controller..

Btw the game isn't THAT amazing
sure you can ride jeeps, you can play coop.
You can admire realistic reflections/graphics
_But_, I still like Q3UT2 Better.

Rampant's right. Halo for Mac is not gonna happen. Especially since MS is worried about Xbox sales. This has been one of the cornerstones in Xbox marketing: super new games available only on Xbox, and Halo is one of their premier games. You guys can hold out hope, but I'm afraid you have dissapointment ahead. Sucks.

Well, I'll go for optimism and take it from Bungie themselves:

Hmm, everything is quite strange those days. Bungie was interview this E3 and they confirmed that they are restructuring their team to work on the ports now. However, an MS guy (the Ms games leader or whatever) said that it is not being worked on currently and that there are no plans for the port in the near future.
Who lies?

Comforting, Judge, but I'm worried still. Bungie no longer has the last word to say in this matter, Microsoft does...

This is a snip from the interview at 3dgpu.com:

"The project hasn't been cancelled.
There is no release date.
There is no time currently slated for full production to get underway.
Rumor has it that the title of the game has been renamed to Halo Forever."

Halo Forever seems suspiciously close to Duke Nukem Forever .

Don't hold your breath too long, or you might pass out. Don't feel bad, this is the way microsoft does business. They saw Halo coming out for the mac and said "we can't have that, can we" and bought the company. Now look, mac production is halted. I think it would be a miracle if another bungie game made it to the mac. Doesn't matter what they (bungie) wants now. They've sold their soul and will have to live with it. Hey, they decided to take the money and run..they have no one to blame but themselves.

I thought that once upon a time MS said something along the lines of: Games for the XBox will be great because they can also be ported to the PC (Mac) because the XBox just runs a version of Windows.

Obviously this makes no sense (If you could buy it on PC, why buy it for a console?), but why would they say such a thing anyway?

They want and need exclusive games for the XBox so people will buy them and in turn more games come out and they get richer and take over another market. They do not want a bunch of people sitting on the fence waiting for Halo etc to show up "any day now™" for windows and not get a Xbox.

I have to say, I'm getting a bad feeling about this one. I have a funny feeling that a few people are right when they say it's not going to come out for the PC/Mac. If it was going to come out for the PC/Mac they would have a release date by now for it.

How long has it been now since the Xbox version has been available, 7 - 8 months?

I defintely wouldn't be holding my breath, like OwlBoy. You'll die before it comes out!

Hey guys, calm down. I am as big a M$-hater as most Mac users, but my suggestion here is if you want to play what many consider (myself included) to be one of the best games of all time then just buy an Xbox. I learned a long time ago not to depend on my Mac for gaming. I'll buy a console for that any day of the week. The Xbox is really a good game machine. I personally think that it is much nicer and more elegant (it does sicken me a little to call a M$ product elegant) than all the other consoles on the market right now. Lots of cool games with more on the way. This whole Xbox Live thing sounds extremely cool as well. Halo with a dozen or so friends. All the while chatting on our headsets. Sounds like a chat room with stuff getting blown up.

Just my two cents...

Mmmmm....floor pie.

This can't be good...

battle ground halo

They say that Halo for the PC hasn't even entered development. I must say I'm starting to believe that this is just a stalling tactic. Microsoft is probably hoping to put off releasing Halo for the PC until demand dies down, and Halo 2 is out for the Xbox.

I could have sworn I saw a movie of Halo running on a mac over on Apple's quicktime webpage though, in their hot stuff or whatever section, under gaming. It was a preview of what was to come...

Honest, I saw it! I think that they have a copy of Halo in the works for the mac then... well, if not Steve Jobs will get us all to build a giant canopener so that we can open a big can of whoop ass on them.

Guys, buy an xbox or forget Halo. And Bungie has nothing to say about it. They sold out to MS, lock, stock, and barrel. MS owns their asses!

It will lag like molasses on anything less than a GeForce3.

The Xbox is running a modified NV25. The GeForce4 Titanium is the NV25 for PC's. Go figure. We're going to chop terribly.

So, I guess we can officially say we're not getting Halo - Halo 2 is currently in development... http://www.imgmagazine.com/news/story.php?ArticleID=5708

Hmm, interesting.

This was discussed here:

http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.forum.pl?read=120058

and at one point Matt from Bungie chimed in:

"Those who want "tangible proof" that Microsoft is serious about this don't have much longer to wait."

Oh the suspense,

I remember watching Halo trailers over 2 years ago... From PC gamer magazines and E3 trailers... Discussing hardware requirements that we thought Halo would take on GameRanger.. "Ooh, I hear it's going to take a "G4" to play Halo smoothly... ooooooohhhhh! aaaaah!"... Then last year M$ bought Bungie, I was so angry and still am. Screw M$. Screw Gates. I'd kick that Nazi in the balls if I saw him on the street just as I would if I saw Hitler walking around.

So yeah, it's M$ and it's evil, but what the hell, I think it's worth it.

I said it before, and I'll say it again now, M$ has zero CLUES as to what makes a console and good console games, as evidenced by their lousy game lineup current and future(as known). As with all M$ products it will take 3 or 4 iterations before they either have something worth looking at, or something that will never make it.

I gotta go with Twinkler on this one. Every other game I've ever played on XBox was really bad, and the controller was darn near imposible. I like the Gamecube much better. Halo's single player won't looks as good compared to Metroid Prime, but I doubt Metroid Prime will offer as much in multiplayer.

I'll buy Halo for mac, or I won't buy it at all.

It would have been cool on a computer with a mouse but I find the control to be absolutely abysmal. The graphics are nice, but against UT 2003 and Doom 3 they look like crap.

I had a chance to play halo at college last night and I must say YAWN. The graphics are great and there are some cool things but in all, you are not missing much.

If there's any doubt that Halo might not make it to Mac/PC, rest assured (and disappointed) it won't make it to Mac/PC.

I knew Half Life wouldn't come to Mac...I knew Tribes 2 wouldn't come to Mac. I *know* Halo won't make it to Mac.

And I don't need to be proven wrong...'cuz I'm right...despite what Bungie is babbling, you won't see Halo on Macs until X-Box emulators hit the internet in 10 years from now.

It's coming late, but at least it's getting here. Halo's coming next summer.

But, when it does, be ready to experience the best first person shooter game ever made. I had to buy the Xbox just so I could avoid the wait. I mean, why else would anyone buy an Xbox, except to play Halo?
