I just bought a really old game called 'ascendancy". It should only run in dos(it's older than windows). can I emulate DOS in Virtual PC? When I go to "Start" and select "boot up in msdosmodus" the game freezes.

I really want to play this game because I didn't find any good strategy games on the mac. I tried C&C-clones like Age of empires, civilisation2 and today I bought "Masters of Orion2" but that won't run on my powerbook g3 prismo (too new computer or something)

ain't that great..

Oh! MOOII (Master of Orion II) is a great game! I wonder why it won't run on your PB...
It runs fine on my iMac 350, beige G3/300 and old PBG3/266.

As for running DOS in VPC, it can be done. Obtain a DOS disk image and set it as the C drive and you're set to go.

As for another strategy game to try, buy Alpha Centauri. Great game as well.
AND YOU HAVE TO GET DIABLO II. It's not really strategy, but is it, oh my, ADDICTIVE.

Agreed. Alpha Centauri (especially with the extension pack) and Diabo are THE games of the moment

To boot-up in DOS:

1. Close VPC and DO NOT save, let Windows shutdown.
2. Launch VPC again and immediately press and hold down the F8 key.
3. After a few seconds you should be presented with a Boot Menu (you can let go of the F8 key now ).
4. Choose the menu option for "Command Prompt Only", make sure it is NOT the Safe Mode Command prompt.
5. You will be left at a "C>" prompt and from there you can find the directory for your game and launch it with a dos command.

Good Luck!
