does any one know if its possible to get a gampad to control ms lara rather than the keyboard

ive tried the gravis eliminator and the saitek p750 both with usb overload and/or happy gear
and failed miserable to get ms lara to do anything via the gamepad

my system is g4 yikes 400MHz Mac OS 9.0.4 + latest updates for just about every aspect of the OS including the gamesprockets

also does anyone have any comments on the gravis eliminator aftershock vs iShock gamepads

cheers in advance

Yes, it is indeed possible to control lara with gamepad. I use one that is pretty good, although I believe it is old enough not to be made any more. (one of the first usb gamepads, i think by CH.)

*Note: I'm now home, and see that my gamepad is a Fusion Thrustmaster. No joke, that's what they call it...
*

Make sure there are at least 10 buttons on your gamepad for laura. In fact, for tr4, you may want more or have to use the keyboard still for some functions. With TRII 10 buttons was just enough. My dad bought a gamepad with 6 buttons and was bummed to find he couldn't program everything. My gamepad has a swivel ball on left for direction, 6 action buttons on the top right, 2 small buttons in the middle that I use for inventory and walking, and two buttons on bottom that are great for side stepping.

I think when I installed TRIII I was bummed to find that with the monkey swing and all I had to use the keyboard for some things. I ended up leaving "walk" a keyboard action since it was "shift" and easy to remember, and wouldn't delay me in time-sensitive conditions.

Make sure what you buy is sprockets compatible.

Enjoy the game! Let me know how it is! (I'm not buying it until I get through 3, which I'm not letting myself get into until I finish Harry the Handsome Exective by Ambrosia.

That's wierd, I only have the demo version of TR4 but it works just fine with my Saitek P750 gamepad!

Configuring the controls within the game didn't seem to do anything, but if you double click on the TR4 setup icon in the program folder you should get a control panel that'll let you configure the gamepad.

Then click on the play TR4 icon & away you go!

Cheers!

I have an iShock gamepad, and it works fine with TR4. There are enough buttons on the iShock for good game play, IMO.

TR4 seems to be relatively buggy, though. I have read a number of posts from people with first-class hardware, and seemingly all the necessary software updates, who haven't been able to get TR4 to run right, if they've gotten it to run at all.

This is especially surprising to me, given that I am running TR4 on an iMac Rev B with stock everything. It seems that if TR4 should malfunction, it should malfunction on a POS computer like mine. But I haven't had any problems since I downloaded and installed the TR4 update posted on Versiontracker.

Just about the only advice I could give you is for you to make absolutely certain that you have *all* the ncessary software updates, including any updates for your video card.

I download all of my software updates from two places:
http://www.versiontracker.com

and
http://www.macgamefiles.com

You might also want to check the integrity of the connection between your gaming device and your USB input. You might have a USB faulty USB port.

I hope this was at least somewhat helpful. Good luck.

True, Tristen, about the USB ports. My dad fought with a gravis joystick for a month, could only get lara to run in circles, sent it back and complained to gravis til we tested the usb port and discovered that his keyboard port was faulty.

He got a new keyboard and a gamepad and it worked fine.

jzaw, try another port?
