Thanks for the comment! I'll try to keep writing good questions I hope you buy the game, and, of course, enjoy it

Have a good day.

We'll be trying to be total objective in everything that we post (about genre anyways)! I haven't played any of the Monkey Island series, but I'll have to see if I can find a way to get my hands on something... I can't wait until this comes out; the graphics look simply stunning! Thanks for the positive comments on GMC, I know Trevor and everyone else involved is glad to see it :-) Have you registered for the giveaways?

I'll be buying this game the instant it's available. I just made arrangements to "visit" some relatives who have a PC so I can play Curse of Monkey Island before EFMI is finished.

Are you into adventure games in general, or just Monkey Island? I like the new MacNN games site and hope it will be giving full coverage to adventure games for Mac. And no "Adventure games are dead" editorials.

Yes, I'm registering for the giveaways. I actually won a game from a website not too long ago, so I'm not expecting lightning to strike twice.

One last thing on adventure games -- here are some games coming to Mac that aren't as well known as the Mysts and Monkey Islands. It would be great if MacNN could cover them:

OpSys from [hyper]media

Adventure at the Chateau D’Or from Karma Labs

The Legend of the Prophet and the Assassin from Arxel Tribe (website in French)

Riddle of the Sphinx

Thanks!

I'll have to take a look at those; I'm starting to get into more of the adventure type of game. I think that this is going to start to become one of the more popular on the Mac platform; but you and I both know that it won't take over the FPS genre

I think if adventures do pick up on the Mac (if companies port them) they will likely be more popular than they are on the PC, percent wise. I know about 10 people just from school who are drooling over EMI for the Mac, but they didnt care at all about Madden 2K or Unreal Tournament. Remember the Mac user base is what brought initial popularity to Myst, the best selling (although not entirely "pure") adventure game ever.

It's a damn shame LucasArts didn't port Monkey 3 over. We now have a gaping hole. Mac users can play MI1 and MI2 (albeit with sound skipping), but have to "visit" PC owning friends to get the third chunk of the story, and a great game. Same with Grim Fandango, but now that the GRIME engine is being ported ...

Great site, too, by the way. I read it daily (or close)

MONKEY ISLAND MONKEY ISLAND MONKEY ISLAND... we dedicated fans have awaited this sequel for years, and now it is finally upon us! I think we should take a moment of silence.

Do any of you have any Mac fan sites that you know of? I'm thinking MAYBE we would be able to slap 'em up on the GameCenter page. Feel free to post...

I have to agree; Escape From Monkey Island looks freakin great; I think it just may pull me away from AQ2!!

I'm not a huge gamer (on computers anyway) but I loved that game and will definately buy this new version!

Best of luck to the team.

Nate -- there's LucasMacs at lucasmacs.mixnmojo.com - it's more a general lucasarts/mac site, but obviously right now focused on EMI.
I'm also interested in finding some other mac-emi/lucasarts sites...

I visit LucasMacs as well as The International House of Mojo occasionally -- good sites!

Jake, I don’t know about adventures being relatively more popular on the Mac. The Myst example was an awfully long time ago. It all depends on how they’re marketed. The great thing here is that Aspyr will do a better job of selling EFMI to the Mac market than LucasArts would have.

Nate, I hope you’re right about Adventures becoming more popular on the Mac. I suspect it will be the hybrids, like Deus Ex and DS9: The Fallen, rather than pure adventures, that really start to take off. We’ve already seen this on the PC side with Half-Life. But that’s okay with me, I like action too! (I even played an FPS once, Quake -- I didn’t get out alive, but it was fun. )

I think there will always be a place for pure adventures, even if not in the mainstream. While FPS’s are distinctive because of the technology, the popularity of adventure games is independent of the state of technology. They’ve been adapting to new technologies for 25 years -- yes, the genre is as old as Pong -- from text parsers to animated graphics to photorealistic graphics to FMV and finally moving into real-time 3D. And they're still quite popular in Europe -- two of the games I mentioned above are from France and Greek Cyprus. I’ve gotten games from France and Switzerland in the last month alone.

Anyway, it seems things are looking up for Mac gaming, no matter what your genre preferences are!
