Hey y'all,
I'm a total ASP newbie and I've just implemented a search engine on our web site. I need y'all to take it for a run and make sure you don't see any issues that I haven't found, if you dont mind too much. Go to http://www.bcbe.org then click "search" in the upper-right.
Thanks!

thanks kitten. it's been a constant evolution ever since i started...especially since i only work here during breaks, i come back from school and see all the problems with it.
i do have one thing now bugging the hell out of me with the search. Type in any word that will return at least one search (i.e. "kids" or "jobs"), and the last result will always be gibberish, pointing to the site base. it didn't seem like it was doing this yesterday...now I'm wishing I knew what was in that asp...

I managed to get two errors when I searched.
1 when I typed '''''''''''''''''''
another when I added an equals (=) sign to any search.
How are you indexing the pages? That might give a clue as to why you're getting a gibberish last result.

Ohh, I'm almost embarrased to admit it. But, it's microsoft index server. I'm at the mercy of a microsoft junkie admin, and he won't let me do anything that requires non-MS software on the machine (i.e. PHP).
having said that, i've noticed that if you type in a word that it ignores, i.e. "of" or "to" or ''''''''''''''''''''''''' like you did earlier, you get the error 80041605 about only containing ignored words. that's less of a concern for me as the gibberish, since most users probably won't run into the ignored words error (i'd hope not anyway)
oops...just realized i need to filter out a few directories. the help pages for index server are showing up in the search results. BTW, am I going insane, or am I only getting the gibberish in searches that end in the letter "s"??

Haven't checked your pages... but
Wanted to pop in and point you to http://www.4guysfromRolla.com if you haven't been by already...
Good resource for ASP in general, but they also have a pretty good article on Index Server/SQL Search integration that's pretty smooth. And a few bits about tweaking Index Server that may be of use...
Documentation on Index Server is beyond crap + getting worse with each new iteration of IIS...
Peace + all - jb

I fixed my problems with gibberish results by doing an uninstall/reinstall of Index server (that's MS software...if something's not working, just reinstall it!). It seems to be working ok now. The speed is fine for now too...but there's not much traffic (yet). Thanks for the linkage, i will definately check that site out.
