OK, so this is my first website since 8th grade (I just got done with my freshman year in college). I'd like to know how I'm doing. Not only that (because I already think it looks good), but there are a few problems with it, like browser incompatibility issues.

Here it is.

First, remember these few things:

1) It's not done, and there is no "real" content.

2) The graphics are a bit large (size in KB), I know, but 99% of all viewing is going to be on my LAN (because it's for our local MUG).

3) Also, because it's not finished, the links on the left side (although they work) do not count, so only pay attention to the index. There are mega differences between the index and the rest of them

4) I know very well I ripped off AtAT, and I think I did a good job of it. If you don't like it then that's your problem.

5) I've only looked at it in Internet Explorer 5/5.1.1, OmniWeb 4.0.1, and Netscape 4.75, so any other incompatible browsers should be reported.

A few bugs I've notice, but not sure how to fix:

1) The transparency in the .png files doesn't work in Netscape. I'm not sure how to get around this. Can I have a different page load if it's a Netscape browser? How do I work this out?

2) Internet Explorer doesn't seem to always like TOPMARGIN, LEFTMARGIN, MARGINWIDTH and MARGINHEIGHT. I don't know what the problem is, but when it loads from scratch, the tables sometimes have a large margin around them, making it look like crap. Anyone see this when they view it, and know how to fix it?

Feel free to look at the HTML and give me pointers on cleaning it up. I don't know the best ways to go about it. I used OmniWeb to write the HTML. It is all done by hand (except the JavaScript. That was a copy/paste from Apple's website.)

I'd like to know what to do about the .png's and Netscape. It's a real pain in the ass, since all our campus-owned computers have Netscape as the default browser.

General comments also appreciated.

Oh, and thank you sonic. You'll notice I used your apple character for the logo. Thanks! E-mail me ( xeo@mac.com ) so I know how to give you credit. I don't know your real name.

Try this:

<font size="1"face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial">code:

& amp;lt;font size=1 face=courier>style="margin-top: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px;"

stuff like that. IE likes CSS a LOT better than nonstandard attributes like "topmargin"

OK, I'll try that, but unfortunately I don't know how to use CSS much. How do I do it without making a seperate CSS document (well, actually I might want a seperate CSS document to house my background color and text fonts and everything...)

No multi level transparency. The shadows would look like crap. So as of now, I'm without a working Netscape version. I'm thinking of solidifying a background color (which I haven't decided a permanent one), then making the pics jpgs or something so it will look good in all browsers.

Hi,

I see you managed to get the menu bar to extend the length of the browser window on some pages--good stuff.

The PNG transparency isn't supported by Netscape, any version, full stop. You need to use JPGs.

The first part of this page will show you how you can add CSS to a page without creating a separate CSS document (although I prefer a separate document. Easier all around).

Drop shadows should be solved with JPEGs, altough you can create suprisingly nice shadows if you just have enough colors in your GIF palette. PNG-images have a ridicolous footprint.

The margins only works on the sub-pages.

And why oh why do you have redundant links on each and every page?
NO PAGE should ever - EVER - link to itself.
